Custom Couple and Family Portraits

When you send a photo for a couple or family portrait, the resolution matters more than the pose. I prefer working with high-definition shots because it allows me to capture the fine details in the eyes and expressions that make a drawing feel truly alive. Art should feel as real as the memories you want to save. For couples and families, I primarily work with charcoal and graphite on thick, professional-grade paper like Brustro or Fabriano. These mediums provide that high-contrast, timeless look that makes a portrait feel classic. If your photo is full of color and life, I switch to layered wax-based pencils, which I blend manually to get the skin tones and fabric colors just right.

My process is simple but it takes time. I don't just trace. I build the shading layer by layer, which is why I often share progress shots with you at the blocking and final detailing stages. This helps us make sure the likeness is spot on before I apply the fixative spray to seal it.

For couple portraits, I recommend A3 size paper. It gives me enough space to fit two faces without crowding the composition. It also allows me to focus on the textures of your clothes or accessories.
