Hand-Drawn Family Portraits: Sabko Ek Frame Mein
Getting the whole family in one photo is often impossible, but I can fix that. I create realistic graphite and charcoal sketches from your separate photos to bring your loved ones together in one frame.
The final result of a commissioned A3 family portrait. It’s a beautiful way to have everyone in one frame, creating a memory that lasts longer than a photograph.
Another angle of the completed family sketch, with a pencil resting on it to give a sense of scale and the hand-drawn nature of the work.
Here you can see the portrait nearing completion. The grid lines are gone, and the final shading is being applied to bring all the individual faces together into a cohesive group.
This shot shows the work in progress with the initial grid lines still visible. I use the grid method to ensure every proportion and feature is accurately placed before I begin the detailed shading.
A close-up video showing the intricate shading work on the father's shirt and the child's hat. This is where the portrait starts to gain depth and texture.
An earlier stage of the family portrait. The father's face is almost complete, while the child's is still a line drawing. This shows how I build up each person individually.
The very beginning of the shading process. After the initial outline, I start by laying down the foundational tones on the first subject, slowly building up the shadows and highlights.
A slightly different view of the work-in-progress, showing my desk setup. Every portrait is a journey that takes hours of focused effort.
About Family Portraits: Sabko Ek Frame Mein
Often, your favorite family members aren't in the same place at the same time. I use the grid method to merge separate reference photos into one cohesive, realistic portrait. Whether you are planning a birthday surprise or just want a special keepsake, I focus on the little details—like the texture of hair and clothing—to make sure everyone looks exactly like themselves in that one frame.
Creating a family portrait is all about that final 'wow' moment. I work primarily on A3 size paper (29.7 x 42 cm) to ensure there is enough room to capture everyone's face with precision and clarity. I use premium 200+ GSM paper, which means your drawing stays crisp for years and won't yellow over time.
My process relies on a mix of graphite for smooth skin tones and charcoal for deep shadows, which gives the drawing that realistic depth you see in the gallery. Once the shading is finished, I seal the artwork with a fixative spray to prevent smudging or fading.
If you have separate photos of your parents, siblings, or grandparents, I will merge them carefully into a single composition. You will get work-in-progress updates throughout the process, so you know exactly how the portrait is shaping up before I ship it. It is honest, detailed work, and seeing the finished piece come together is the sukoon I look for in my art.
