About Behind the Scenes: The Art of Draping
People often think draping is just wrapping fabric, but the secret is in the prep. Before I ever touch a saree, I steam-iron every inch to remove travel creases and use specific internal locking techniques. This is how I ensure a heavy Kanchivaram or a delicate chiffon stays perfectly in place for over eight hours, allowing you to move and dance without constant adjustments.
My Draping Process
I treat every drape as a conversation between the fabric and the wearer. For my bridal clients, I prioritize 'pre-pleating' whenever possible. By arriving early or coordinating a studio drop-off, I heat-set the pleats so that on your wedding day, the saree essentially acts as a pre-stitched garment. You just step in, and I secure it with my signature locking pins.
Handling Heavy Fabrics
Whether it is a 9-yard Nauvari or a heavy Banarasi silk, the weight of the fabric is the biggest challenge. I use heavy-duty rust-proof safety pins placed strategically inside the pleats. This supports the weight of the silk without causing the drape to sag or pull at your shoulders. I also manage your floor clearance to ensure you don't trip while walking, regardless of the fabric's weight.
On-Location Professionalism
I know how chaotic weddings are, so I travel to your venue across Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi prepared. My kit includes a professional-grade steamer to handle last-minute travel creases that occur when you transport your outfits. I don't just drape and leave; I stay until the first walk is perfect, ensuring your Dupatta or Pallu is set exactly to your comfort level.
Beyond Saree Draping
It is not just about sarees. I style dhotis for grooms and handle complex dupatta setting for lehengas. My goal is to make sure every outfit feels like a second skin, allowing you to enjoy your event without the stress of managing your attire.
