About Divine Gallery: The Vaishnava Tradition

Every painting here starts with a freehand sketch, followed by layers of gesso paste to create the iconic 3D relief work. I apply 22-karat gold leaf to the jewelry and borders, ensuring the light catches the artwork and makes the deity’s ornaments shimmer exactly as they should in a traditional pooja room.

The Vaishnava tradition has been the heart of my work for over three decades. Whether it is the coronation of Lord Rama, the playful flute of Lord Krishna, or the serene form of Lord Balaji, my goal is to create a piece that serves as a focal point for your prayer space.

My Process

I follow the traditional Mysore school of painting. This is a slow, meditative process. Once the sketch is finalized on the board, I build the relief structure using gesso paste, which is a mix of limestone and adhesive. This is what gives the jewelry and crowns their distinct 3D depth.

After the gesso dries, I apply 22-karat gold leaf. This isn't gold paint; it is authentic, thin-foil gold that requires precise handling to stick only where intended. Finally, I use high-quality poster colors for the deity's body and clothes, often opting for soft, traditional tones that allow the gold work to stand out.

Customization

Every painting you see here is a reference point. If you want a specific deity or a particular scene from the Puranas, I can craft it to your preferred size. Whether you need a 10x12 inch portrait for a small shelf or a larger composition for a wall, I will work with you to ensure the proportions and traditional iconography are accurate to your requirements.

I am Raghavendra. I have spent 35 years learning to paint the gods, and for me, it is an act of prayer. I do not mass-produce these works; I create each piece slowly, by hand, so that it carries a sense of peace when it finally arrives in your home.
