We move beyond simple stretching. These sessions focus on the mechanics of the spine and how to safely open the heart center through traditional practice.

Demonstrating a variation of Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Pigeon Pose). This asana requires deep flexibility in the hips, quadriceps, and spine, as well as open shoulders.

My self-practice of Chakrasana (Wheel Pose) against a wall. This helps to focus the bend in the upper back and open the chest, rather than crunching the lower back.

An advanced backbend workshop in session. I am demonstrating a deep standing backbend while students observe before receiving adjustments.

Leading a class in Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (One-Legged King Pigeon Pose). This pose is a powerful heart opener and hip flexor stretch.

Students at different levels of flexibility work on their King Pigeon pose. The focus is on progress, not perfection.

Providing a deep adjustment for a student in King Pigeon Pose to help her safely access the full expression of the asana.

Students practicing Eka Pada Viparita Dandasana (One-Legged Inverted Staff Pose), a challenging backbend that builds significant upper body and back strength.

A class works on Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel Pose), a foundational backbend that strengthens the entire back body and opens the chest.

Students practicing King Pigeon Pose, focusing on lifting the chest and arching the upper back.

Using chairs to support the back in a deep variation of Kapotasana, allowing for a passive and supported spinal release.

About Deep Backbends & Spinal Articulation

In my backbend workshops, I use props like chairs and belts to safely deconstruct poses like Kapotasana and Urdhva Dhanurasana. This is not about force. It is about understanding the precise skeletal alignment needed to open your chest without compressing the lower back, ensuring you build strength rather than injury.
