Safely open your spine and heart with structured guidance. Whether you are working toward Kapotasana or refining your Natarajasana, these workshops focus on alignment, prop use, and steady, sustainable progress.

Natarajasana, or Lord of the Dance Pose, is a profound backbend that requires balance and openness. This pose embodies grace and strength, stretching the shoulders, chest, and thighs while building focus.

A demonstration of the stages of entering Kapotasana (Pigeon Pose). This advanced backbend requires significant preparation and patience, opening the entire front body from the thighs to the chest.

A simple standing backbend, or Anuvittasana, is the foundation for deeper postures. Even in a pair of jeans, the practice continues, focusing on the rhythm of the body and the melody of the mind.

This is Purna Dhanurasana (Full Bow Pose), an intense backbend that deeply stretches the abdominal organs and strengthens the back muscles. It is a powerful expression of opening the heart center.

Exploring Parivritta Dhanurasana, a twisting variation of the bow pose. This asana combines a deep backbend with a spinal twist, improving digestive function and increasing flexibility in the back and shoulders.

Using blocks under the hands in Urdhva Dhanurasana (Upward Bow Pose) helps elevate the chest and deepen the arch in the upper back. This modification makes the pose more accessible while still challenging the body.

Consistency is the key to progress. This video shows a simple but effective quad stretch and backbend preparation, a movement I repeat daily to maintain flexibility for more advanced postures.

A collage showing different angles of my weekend backbending practice. Observing the pose from multiple perspectives helps in understanding the alignment and effort required for a balanced Natarajasana.

A focused moment in Natarajasana. This pose is a beautiful combination of stability in the standing leg and flexibility through the spine and shoulders, a true test of balance and concentration.

The full expression of Natarajasana requires lifting through the chest and extending through the back leg. It's a journey of finding length and space in the body, one breath at a time.

About Deep Backbends: Opening the Spine & Heart

In these sessions, we don’t just arch the back; we look at the mechanics of your spine, shoulders, and hips. I use a specific mix of props—metal chairs, bricks, and wall ropes—to create space where you might feel stuck. It’s not about how far you can go, but how safely you can get there. If you’ve felt restricted in your practice or want to understand the physics behind poses like Urdhva Dhanurasana, this is where we start.
