Join our DelSlam family for an evening of raw, honest poetry. Whether you're a first-timer stepping up to the mic or a listener ready to be moved, our studio in Connaught Place is your creative home.

A poet takes the stage in our packed studio. We often have to pull out extra carpets to fit everyone, a testament to the incredible enthusiasm of the DelSlam fam.

A young poet delivers a powerful and emotional performance about body image and societal pressure. Our stage is a platform for brave, honest, and activist poetry.

We collaborated with Alliance Française de Delhi for an open mic at the 'We are the ocean' festival. Here, a poet performs in an immersive setting, using art to discuss important environmental causes.

An international poet shares her perspective on stage at Worldmark Delhi, discussing the shared history between Ireland and India. Our events celebrate diverse voices and global connections.

Slam queen Sidra Raihan captivates the audience at Worldmark Aerocity. Her poetry is admired for its realness and its power to heal.

Our founder, Saumya, performing a poem about the risks and rewards of choosing a life in the arts. Her work often explores personal themes of family, hope, and passion.

A poet shares a deeply personal piece about mental health, a topic she started writing about during her darkest times. Our open mics are a safe space for vulnerability and healing.

A moving performance about grief and finding kindness in unexpected places. Our poets are unafraid to tackle difficult emotions, creating a space for shared human experience.

A full house at our open mic collaboration with the French Institute of India. The audience listens intently as poets perform in Hindi, Urdu, and French.

An audience member films a performance at the Alliance Française de Delhi. Our events are filled with supportive listeners who appreciate the art of spoken word.

About Live on Stage: Open Mics & Performances

When you walk into our studio, don't expect a formal theater setup. We are all about that cozy, living-room vibe where poets sit on rugs and perform inches away from the audience. You might be squeezing in on a floor cushion or sharing a slice of pizza with a fellow writer between sets, but that is the magic of it—it is just real people sharing real stories in a space that feels like home.

Our open mic nights are not about being perfect; they are about being present. For the last decade, we have built a space where doctors, students, engineers, and homemakers all stand on the same stage to speak their truth. Whether you write in English, Hindi, or any other language, you are welcome here.

What to expect at our sessions

We run these events with a simple philosophy: be kind, be encouraging. The sessions are usually 2 to 3 hours long, featuring 10 to 15 performers. We keep the environment low-pressure, especially for those who are performing for the first time. You will find a mix of seasoned spoken word poets and nervous first-timers, all supported by an audience that is there to listen, not to judge.

The Vibe

Our studio near Connaught Place is designed for comfort. We have indoor and outdoor nooks, beanbags, and floor seating. We believe poetry is best enjoyed with a bit of chai and snacks, so we make sure there is always something to eat and drink.

Performance & Participation

If you want to perform, we offer guaranteed 4 to 5-minute slots on the mic. We handle the audio setup—dynamic microphones and PA systems—and our emcee will introduce you properly. These events are also where we spot talent for our Wingword Poetry Prize and our various publishing anthologies.

We don't just want you to watch; we want you to connect. Stick around after the performances during our dedicated networking time. You will find a community that writes, rebels, and heals together.

We are Delhi Poetry Slam, but honestly, we are more like a big, noisy family. We started out wanting to make some noise for poetry in India, and we have ended up finding a community that writes in English, Hindi, and everything in between. Come for the open mic, stay because you finally found a room full of people who actually get it.
