Why I Do This
Sometimes all it takes is one line, one idea, to change someone’s world. At Delhi Poetry Slam, I want to make sure every poet, from the gali ka ladka (boy from the street) to the college topper, finds a real stage. Poetry isn’t just for the pros or the English-medium crowd - yeh sabka hai (this is for everyone).
What You Can Expect
- My flagship Wingword Poetry Prize is a national poetry competition that’s been running for 7+ years. No matter if you’re a beginner or have been writing for years, you belong here.
- No theme restrictions - write about heartbreak, politics, dost yaar (friends), whatever’s on your mind.
- Poems are welcome in English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, and more - apni zubaan mein likho (write in your language).
- Fully online entry process. I run two cycles a year, so there’s always another shot.
What You Get
- Big cash prizes for winners in youth poetry contest, junior, and regional language poetry awards.
- The main winner gets a poetry book publication opportunity - your solo book, for real.
- Top 100-500 poets get anthology publication for poets, plus a free copy.
- Every participant gets a certificate. No one leaves empty-handed.
- Winners and top poets join a live award ceremony in Delhi - meet other poets, perform your piece, get recognized.
Not Just One Competition
There are smaller, themed contests happening on Instagram, and a live spoken word championship if you love performing. Your words matter, bhai (friend). If you’ve ever wanted your poem to reach beyond your notebook, ab waqt aa gaya hai (now's the time).

My Story
We’re Poetry Slam, but honestly, we’re more like a big, noisy family than anything else. Started out wanting to make some noise for poetry in India, ended up finding poets from every gali (lane) and city. Doctors, students, engineers, homemakers - English, Hindi, Maithili, sab milke likhte hain (everyone writes together). We’ve given out prizes, published books, but really, we just want to create a space where poetry heals, rebels, and connects. Mandir masjid ka hungama, par poetry insaan bana deti hai (We fight over temples and mosques, but poetry makes us human). That’s what keeps us going.
My Work
Poetry Events & Services - We run spoken word open mics, host Wingword Poetry Prize, lead writing workshops, offer mentorship, publish books, and organise meet-ups.
Wingword Poetry Prize - Our big annual contest for poets in India. Cash prizes, publishing deals, and poems accepted in English, Hindi, and more.
