Witness the immense scale of Africa's most iconic animals. From the legendary super tuskers of Amboseli to the tall giraffes of the Mara, these tours focus on capturing the gentle, raw power of the savannah's biggest inhabitants.

The almighty Craig, a super tusker from Amboseli, walking through a lush green landscape. His presence is humbling, a living monument to the wild. Every encounter with him feels personal, a connection to one of nature's last great giants.

A family of zebras gathers at a waterhole, their stripes creating a dizzying, beautiful reflection. This is a moment of simple joy in the wild, a peaceful scene that captures the interconnectedness of life on the plains.

A tower of giraffes against the vast African sky creates a symphony of nature. This minimalist composition, with the silhouettes against the horizon, feels like a painting and shows the artistic beauty we can find in the wild.

A rare and precious sighting of two rhinos grazing peacefully in Nairobi National Park. These magnificent animals are critically endangered, and every opportunity to photograph them is a reminder of the urgent need for conservation.

Two young elephants lock tusks in a playful test of strength. This is how they practice and establish dominance, a primal dance that is incredible to witness and photograph.

Two giraffes, like towers against the sky. There’s a unique thrill in capturing their graceful movements and immense height, framing them against the dramatic clouds of the African savannah.

These images further celebrate the giants of Africa. From the gentle giants like giraffes and elephants to the striking patterns of zebras, each photo tells a story of life on a grand scale.

About Giants of the Savannah

We do not just drive past these animals. For the best shots of elephants and giraffes, we prioritize 4x4 Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs and open sides, allowing us to get low-angle perspectives right from the ground. It makes a world of difference when you are at eye-level with a tusker like Craig instead of looking down from a high seat, and this approach is a core part of how we teach composition.

The African savannah is a theater of scale. Photographing giants like elephants, rhinos, and giraffes requires a different kind of patience compared to hunting big cats. These animals move with a deliberate, slow rhythm, and the challenge lies in capturing their quiet moments—the way a giraffe browses against the horizon or how an elephant herd interacts at a waterhole.

Why Our Expeditions Are Different

  • Small Group Focus: We cap our groups at 3-4 photographers per vehicle. This ensures everyone has direct access to the side of the vehicle, meaning no one is fighting for a clean shot or blocking the view.
  • Low-Angle Approach: Our vehicles are chosen specifically for their ability to provide low-angle shots. In wildlife photography, this perspective changes everything. It turns a standard record shot into a portrait that feels intimate and monumental.
  • Mentorship in the Field: Whether you are shooting in Amboseli or the Serengeti, I am with you to discuss light, framing, and behavior. We don't just look for the 'Big Five'; we look for the stories—the playfulness of young calves, the tension between rivals, and the calm of a herd at sunset.

Where We Shoot

Our expeditions take us to the heart of East Africa’s prime wildlife habitats. We frequent Amboseli National Park, which is known for its rare super tuskers. These aren't just elephants; they are living monuments. We also cover the Maasai Mara and the Serengeti, where the vast, open plains provide the perfect canvas for minimalist compositions featuring silhouettes of giraffes and zebra herds. If you want to move beyond snapshots and start creating art from the wild, I am here to help you get there.

I am Deepak Shankar. I have spent years tracking Africa's giants, and my favorite moments aren't just the action-packed chases; they are the quiet hours spent in Amboseli, watching a super tusker move through the dust. I invite you to join me so we can learn to read the savannah's rhythm together.
