Join my specialized expeditions to the high Arctic, where we track and photograph the world's largest land predator in the vast, frozen wilderness of Svalbard.

A childhood dream realized. Seeing this polar bear climbing the rocks against a backdrop of glaciers in Svalbard was a breathtaking spectacle. This is the raw, wild beauty of the high Arctic that I aim to share on my expeditions.

The silent king of the ice. I spotted this lone polar bear walking across the frozen landscape, completely at home in its vast, white world. It’s a moment of pure, raw nature that makes you feel incredibly lucky to witness.

A bear in paradise. I found this polar bear sleeping peacefully among the rocks, a moment of pure tranquility in the otherwise harsh Arctic environment. It’s a reminder of the quiet, beautiful moments that exist even in the planet's most extreme locations.

This image captures the personal odyssey of an Arctic expedition. Witnessing this polar bear navigate its fragile, watery world is a profound connection to the resilience of life and the delicate balance of our planet's ecosystems.

This is the kind of 'ginger' I like to find. A massive bearded seal, the largest of all Arctic seals, resting on the sea ice. They are a crucial part of the Arctic ecosystem and a primary food source for polar bears.

From curious quests on rocky shores to solitary walks across the ice, these images showcase the diverse behaviors and stunning environments of the polar bears we encounter on my Arctic journeys.

About The Arctic Expedition: Polar Bears

We rely on small Zodiac boats to get you to water-level, shifting your perspective from a tourist looking down to a photographer capturing the bear’s reality. You will face challenges like white-on-white exposure and unpredictable Arctic light, but that is where the real images are made. We spend our days tracking these giants, focusing on natural behavior and patience, rather than just ticking them off a list.

The Arctic is a demanding environment, and shooting here requires more than a long lens. My expeditions are designed to put you in the right place at the right time, whether we are navigating ice floes on an ice-strengthened vessel or approaching the shoreline via Zodiacs.

The Technical Challenge

Shooting in the Arctic often means working in 'white-on-white' conditions. I teach you how to manage exposure so the snow maintains texture and the bears remain crisp, not blown out. We also discuss how to handle the contrast between the dark, rocky terrain and the pristine ice, ensuring your composition remains strong despite the harsh, shifting light.

Why Svalbard

We focus on Svalbard because it offers the most intimate access to polar bears. This isn't a passive sightseeing tour. We look for interactions: a bear navigating a narrow ledge, a mother teaching her cub to hunt, or a solitary wanderer crossing a glacier.

What You Learn

My role is to be your eyes and your guide. Beyond the camera settings, I share how to read the predator's body language so you can anticipate action before it happens. Whether you are dealing with freezing temperatures or the logistical dance of shooting from a moving boat, I am right there with you to ensure you walk away with portfolio-grade images that tell the story of these incredible animals.

I treat every Arctic expedition like a personal pilgrimage. My focus isn't just getting you to the polar bears; it is teaching you how to read the landscape, manage tricky exposure in the snow, and wait patiently for that one frame that tells a story.
