Portraits of Icons in Charcoal and Graphite
These sketches are my personal tributes to people who inspire me. I use these drawings to practice capturing the exact depth and emotion in a face.
My hyper-realistic charcoal sketch of the legendary boxer, Mike Tyson. I was focused on capturing the power and intensity in his gaze, as well as the famous facial tattoo.
A detailed portrait of the incredible actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The character in his face is amazing to draw, and I used charcoal to get the deep shadows and highlights.
A pencil sketch tribute to Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. I wanted to capture his proud smile while wearing the team India jersey, focusing on the emblem and his happy expression.
About Portraits of Icons
Drawing familiar faces is how I sharpen my skills for your commissions. When I work on a portrait, I look for the specific lines—the depth in the eyes or the texture of the skin—that make a person who they are. If you like how I captured the intensity in these icons, I can bring that same level of detail to your personal photos.
These drawings of public figures are more than just practice. They are my way of refining my technique with graphite and charcoal before I pick up a pencil for your orders. Every hour spent getting the shadow right on a known face is an hour that helps me better capture your loved ones when you send me a photo.
My Process
I work exclusively with graphite and charcoal on professional-grade, acid-free paper. For these icons, I focus on the story behind the face—like the grit in a boxer’s gaze or the joy in an actor’s smile. I do not use any digital shortcuts. Every line is hand-drawn and finished with a fixative spray so the work stays clean for years to come.
How I Can Help You
If you are looking for a gift, whether it is a family portrait or a sketch of a special person, I treat it with the same care. You get a piece of art that looks like the photo but feels alive. Since I work on commission, I need a high-resolution photo from you to get started. I handle everything from single subjects to complex family compositions. Send me a message with your photo, and we can discuss the best size and style for your project. Bas.
