Sitar Performances, TEDx Talks, and Musical Storytelling
I believe the sitar has a story to tell beyond the concert hall. Here is a look at my journey sharing Indian classical music, from TEDx stages to collaborative tours.
Performing on the TEDx stage, where I had the opportunity to explain the intricacies of Indian classical music to a new audience. I believe in making this art form accessible and relatable to everyone.
A wider view of the TEDx Rambaug stage during my talk and performance. It was a great platform to share my passion and demonstrate the power of the sitar as a storytelling instrument.
A focused moment during my TEDx talk, using technology to help illustrate the concepts of raag and taal. I blend traditional teaching with modern tools to make learning more effective.
A side view from the stage, preparing to play. Whether on a big stage or in a small classroom, my goal is always to connect with the audience through the honest expression of music.
Here is a clip of me and my brother, Chirag, rehearsing for our "Strings in Harmony" tour. Collaboration is a beautiful part of music, and I encourage my students to play duets and in ensembles.
About On the World Stage: Talks & Performances
Standing on the TEDx Rambaug stage felt different from a typical concert. It wasn't just about the music; it was about breaking down the complex layers of Raag and Taal for an audience that might never have heard a sitar before. My goal is always to make this ancient tradition feel accessible and conversational, using the instrument to tell stories that bridge generations.
While my roots are in the traditional Guru-Shishya parampara, I have always wanted to take the sitar into spaces where it is rarely heard. My TEDx talks are a part of this mission—using technology, storytelling, and simple demonstrations to explain why Indian classical music resonates so deeply.
Performing with Family & Friends
Collaboration is where the magic happens. A significant part of my touring life involves my 'Strings in Harmony' project with my elder brother, Chirag. Playing a duet with him is pure joy; we have a non-verbal rhythm that only years of growing up with the same music can create. We don't just perform; we share a conversation on stage that keeps the audience hooked.
The 'ऊrja' Approach
Beyond classical recitals, I lead my band, 'ऊrja', where we blend these traditional sounds with modern fusion and Bollywood influences. Whether it is a studio session or a live concert in Bengaluru, Mumbai, or internationally in the USA, the objective remains the same: to keep the soul of the sitar intact while adapting to the energy of the moment. If you are looking for a performance that is technically grounded but emotionally engaging, I would love to connect.
