Real Talk for Yoga Teachers: Business Mentorship
You finished your training, but the real work of teaching starts now. Cut through the social media noise and learn the business of being a professional yoga instructor.
I've noticed a lot of fear among yoga teachers when it comes to talking about money. I want to know why we are so hesitant to share our fee structures or guide a fellow teacher on financial matters. Let's break down this insecurity together.
You will get inquiries asking for a discount. It's not a matter of if, but when. Here's my direct take on why you should value your time and energy, and how to respond without feeling guilty.
This is some tough love, but it needs to be said. You can't expect results if you aren't willing to do the work, and that includes taking care of your own health. Your students look to you as an example.
I'm a yoga teacher, and I'll be the first to say it. International Yoga Day has become a one day hype fest, and it often feels more like a marketing gimmick than a celebration of the practice.
As a teacher, you have to ask yourself why you are posting on social media. Are you doing it because you genuinely enjoy it, or are you just feeling the pressure to keep up with the hype? Being honest with yourself is the first step.
The one day hype of Yoga Day might bring one or two new students, but after that, it's a "shit show." Real, sustainable teaching is built on consistency and authenticity, not on a single day's trend.
Instead of chasing hype, strive to be an example. Practice what the philosophy preaches by living mindfully, being kind, and taking care of your own mental and physical health. That is what truly inspires students.
Let's be honest, most of us teachers have not explored the full depth of yogic philosophy. We teach asanas and pranayam, but there is so much more to it, starting with how we even pronounce the word "yog."
About Real Talk for Teachers
Stop guessing your pricing or feeling guilty when sending a rate card. In this session, I help you move from feeling lost to having clear, professional protocols for onboarding students, filtering out time-wasters via DM, and setting firm boundaries so you do not burn out before your career even begins.
Transitioning from a certification to a coaching practice is a shock. Most of what you see online is a curated performance, not the grind of building a student base.
The Business Side of Yoga
We discuss why you should not be afraid to discuss money. I share how to structure your fees for private versus group sessions so you are not leaving money on the table. You will learn how to handle inquiries professionally rather than letting fear dictate your responses.
The Reality of Socials
We will look at your bio, branding, and technical setup. You do not need expensive equipment. You need to know how to position your laptop and light your space so students can actually follow your cueing. We cover the specifics of camera angles, audio, and the 'Spotlight' feature to make your online classes look professional.
Setting Boundaries
How do you handle the inevitable requests for discounts or unreasonable timing demands? I provide you with templates and scripts so you can say no without being rude, but also without being a pushover.
The Logistics
This is not a motivational seminar. It is a two-hour deep dive into the logistics: payment policies, health forms, and client intake. You will walk away with a checklist and a roadmap to stop worrying about the hype and start focusing on your students. Let’s get to work.
