The Fight Against Pet Abandonment
We believe pets are family, not commodities. Yet, we see too many discarded in Bangalore when they become old, sick, or inconvenient. This is our stand for those who were left behind.
This is how Phoenix was found, discarded in a pile of construction debris. His body was matted, covered in bite marks, and infested with maggots. This is the reality of pet abandonment.
Copper was found abandoned in a sack on the side of the road. This video shows his journey from that moment of rescue through his medical treatment, highlighting the cruelty he endured.
This is Mike. He was likely used for breeding and then discarded when he was no longer useful. He could barely stand and needed an immediate blood transfusion to survive.
This is Luna when she was rescued. She was tick-ridden with severe inflammation in both eyes, which ultimately could not be saved. Her story is a stark reminder of the suffering abandoned pets endure.
Luna, post-surgery. After months of treatment for her eye condition, our veterinary team performed surgery to relieve her pain. She is now blind but safe and on her way to a new life.
An update on Phoenix. After intensive care, he is eating, walking, and recovering. He is blind due to his injuries, but he is a fighter, and we are hopeful for his full recovery.
Pinky the pug is looking for a home. After surviving an accident that damaged her eye and broke her hips, she was abandoned. This lovable two year old girl has overcome so much and deserves a loving family.
About this collection
Every pet we take in from a home requires urgent medical assessment, often battling severe malnutrition, tick fever, or trauma from being suddenly abandoned. We don't just provide a kennel; our team immediately starts a triage protocol to stabilize their condition, treat deep infections, and manage the profound psychological stress of separation.
When a pet is dumped on the streets of Bangalore, the clock starts ticking. These animals are often accustomed to indoor life, regular meals, and human affection. Suddenly losing all of that triggers a level of confusion and fear that is heartbreaking to witness.
The Reality of Abandonment
Most cases we handle involve pedigreed animals discarded by breeders or owners who view them as broken equipment. From our trauma unit at Yelahanka, we see everything: dogs with untreated infections, spinal trauma from neglect, and the mental anguish of animals that have lost their only family. Our work is to bridge the gap between that moment of abandonment and a second chance at life.
Our Medical Protocol
Saving a life is a commitment. It starts the moment an animal arrives at our facility:
- Stabilization: We address immediate threats like dehydration, tick fever, and maggot-infested wounds.
- Surgical Intervention: For cases like major fractures or severe eye trauma, our veterinary team performs life-saving surgeries with follow-up physiotherapy.
- Rehabilitation: Recovery isn't just physical. We integrate laser therapy and hydrotherapy for mobility, alongside consistent, loving human interaction to rebuild their trust.
Adopt, Don't Shop
We advocate strongly against the commercial breeding industry that fuels this cycle of disposability. Every dog or cat that enters our shelter as an 'unwanted' pet becomes a testament to resilience. If you have the space and the heart, consider adopting. You are not just getting a pet; you are correcting a wrong and giving a survivor a place to call home.
