Ready to start your badminton journey? We build your foundation with the right grips, footwork, and strokes so you play with confidence from day one.

We break down the basics for our beginners. This guide starts with simple shuttle throwing to understand body mechanics, then moves to body movement and the scissor jump, building the foundation for a powerful stroke.

Mastering footwork is the foundation of a great badminton player. In our beginner classes, we teach essential court movement drills, including front-back and diagonal running, to ensure our players are always in the right position for the next shot.

A proper grip is crucial for control and power. This video explains the four fundamental badminton grips: the forehand, bevel, thumb, and panhandle grips, and when to use each one.

Understand the game before you play. This video covers the basic rules of badminton, including scoring, service rules for even and odd points, and the court boundaries for both singles and doubles play.

This series of images breaks down the fundamental strokes every badminton player needs to know. From the powerful smash to the delicate drop shot, mastering these is key to success.

The Toss, or clear, is a defensive stroke used to hit the shuttle from one baseline to the other. This gives you time to get back to the center of the court.

The Lift is a defensive shot played from the net area, sending the shuttle high to the opponent's backline. It's used to counter a drop shot or net shot.

About this collection

Before you worry about smashes, master the basics. You must learn the four grips (forehand, bevel, thumb, and panhandle) and your footwork. At our academy, we make you practice these movements until they happen automatically on the court. Proper mechanics today mean fewer injuries and faster play tomorrow.

At Champion Badminton Academy, we believe in building your game from the ground up. Beginners often rush into rallies without understanding the fundamentals, which slows progress later. Our sessions focus on the 5 S philosophy: Speed, Skill, Stamina, Strength, and Spirit.

Why Start with Basics?

  • Grips: A proper grip is everything. We ensure you get comfortable with the forehand, bevel, thumb, and panhandle grips early on.
  • Court Movement: We teach you efficient movement, like diagonal running and scissor jumps, so you are always in the right position.
  • Strokes: Learn the mechanics of the Toss, Drop, and Lift correctly to avoid bad habits.

Training Requirements

We train at BSNL Dadar, Bengal Club, and Rustom Baug. Please note that non-marking gum sole shoes are mandatory to protect the courts and keep you stable. We provide nylon shuttles (Mavis 350) for your drills, so just bring your racket and a willingness to sweat.
