Contemporary Reception and Festive Blouse Designs
Reception and festive looks where tradition meets contemporary flair. I blend classic embroidery like cutdana and sequins with modern cuts to create pieces that feel fresh, festive, and entirely yours.
This red brocade blouse was designed for a bride's reception, giving her a stunning contemporary look. The sparkle comes from a careful mix of cutdana, glass beads, and sequins, while the modern back cut and dramatic sleeve latkans add a fashionable touch. It pairs beautifully with a traditional Kanjivaram saree, bridging classic and new.
This vibrant orange silk and net blouse is a perfect example of a versatile festive piece. The embroidery patterns were designed to echo the swirls on the client's saree, using a mix of silver and gold work. Because the work is so rich, this blouse can easily be paired with several other sarees in your wardrobe.
This video shows a behind the scenes look at my 'Kamalam' collection, which is inspired by the lotus. Here, we are draping a beautiful tissue organza saree, known for its light and airy feel. The blouse features delicate lotus embroidery, creating a look that is both modern and deeply rooted in nature.
A full view of the finished look from my 'Kamalam' collection. The model wears a pink tissue organza saree with a custom embroidered blouse. The delicate thread and zari work on the sleeves and neckline, along with the scalloped saree border, create a graceful and elegant ensemble perfect for any modern celebration.
About Contemporary Reception & Festive Wear
When designing for receptions, I often move away from traditional, heavy zardosi to create a lighter, more modern aesthetic. We utilize materials like cutdana, glass beads, and sequins to catch the light, paired with contemporary silhouettes or dramatic back cuts that stand out. This balance makes the piece versatile enough to style with different sarees from your wardrobe later.
My approach to festive and reception wear centers on creating looks that are visually striking yet comfortable for longer events. For these occasions, I favor fabrics like brocade, tissue, and organza which hold their shape and provide a sophisticated base for modern embellishments. Unlike the heavy, dense zardosi work typical of traditional Muhurtham ceremonies, reception pieces allow for more play with texture and visual shine.
I prioritize materials like glass beads, sequins, and katdana because they reflect ambient lighting, ensuring you look radiant throughout your evening. During our design sessions at the HSR Layout studio, we discuss the specific flow of your saree—whether it is a delicate tissue drape or a rich Kanjivaram—and adjust the embroidery density accordingly.
If you are planning a look for a sangeet or reception, we can experiment with necklines, sleeve lengths, and latkan styles that align with current trends while maintaining the core craftsmanship I am known for. The goal is a blouse that feels like a natural extension of your personal style, not just a one-time wear garment.
