Words to Live By: Our Philosophy
Martial arts is more than physical training. It is a path to self-discovery, mastering the ego, and building a resilient mind. Here is what drives our practice.
A core principle from the founder of BJJ, Helio Gracie. We teach Jiu-Jitsu as a tool for self-defense, designed to de-escalate and neutralize threats, not to cause harm.
This is the confidence that comes from competence. Through dedicated training, you learn to face challenges without fear, both on and off the mat.
About Words to Live By: Our Philosophy
You might come here looking to learn how to fight, but you will quickly find that the real work happens internally. Our training philosophy centers on 'Ego ko side mein rakh ke' (keeping the ego aside). On our mats in Malviya Nagar, we don't focus on brute strength or aggression. Instead, we use controlled rolling and mindful breathing to help you understand your own reactions to pressure, teaching you to neutralize threats with calm intelligence rather than raw force.
In a world that often celebrates aggression, we prioritize the quiet strength of Jiu-Jitsu. Many students arrive at our Malviya Nagar studio expecting a high-intensity fight gym. What they find instead is a classroom for life. Our approach combines Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Jeet Kune Do, using martial arts to peel back layers of ego and insecurity.
When we talk about 'BJJ Familia', we are not just using a label. We mean that the person you train with today is the same person who will support you when life gets difficult outside the gym.
We break down training into specific paths:
- Gi Jiu-Jitsu: A technical, physical chess match using the uniform to control leverage.
- No-Gi & JKD: Faster-paced, emphasizing speed and real-world application.
- Mindfulness: Breathwork and meditation that precede every session to ensure we are training with intent, not anger.
You do not need prior experience to join. We only ask that you show up with an open mind, ready to learn, and prepared to leave your ego at the door. If you are looking to unlock your best self rather than just picking up fighting tricks, this is the place for you.
BJJ Familia
Hi, I'm Arun. People often call me India’s first BJJ Black Belt, but my real focus is our 'BJJ Familia'—a community where we share our struggles, our wins, and our growth. Whether you are picking up your first Gi or returning to the mats, I want you to know this is a space where your character matters more than your belt.
