About What is a Doula?
Think of me as the person holding the space while the medical team handles the clinical side. I do not perform medical procedures or make decisions for you. Instead, I ensure you have the evidence-based information to advocate for your preferences, whether we are preparing for a vaginal birth at a city hospital or navigating a planned induction.
Many expecting parents wonder, what exactly is a doula? Simply put, I bridge the gap between your personal wishes and the hospital environment. My role is to be a lighthouse in the storm, helping you navigate your choices with calm confidence.
In my experience supporting over 55 births across Bangalore, I have found that having an advocate changes the entire tone of the experience. I offer prenatal education to help you prepare your birth plan, and during labor, I provide non-medical comfort measures like massage, hydrotherapy, and position changes to help you manage pain.
Unlike the medical staff who focus primarily on clinical monitoring and safety, my focus remains entirely on your physical and emotional comfort. I work closely with your partner to ensure they feel like an active, confident participant in the process rather than a bystander.
My approach is grounded in the belief that you already know how to birth; I am just there to remind you of your power. Whether you are aiming for a natural, unmedicated birth, planning a VBAC, or navigating a complex medical scenario, my role is to help you stay centered, informed, and respected throughout the journey. I do not come with a rulebook, but with an open heart and the readiness to stand by you, no matter the direction your birth takes.
