Our Landscape Design Process: From Concept to Creation
Every finished garden begins with a vision. Before the planting starts, we plan the earth, study the light, and refine the details to ensure your space thrives. Here is the journey of how we transform raw ground into living gardens.
A video showing a 2.5-acre farm residence under construction. From laying the patterned pavers for the driveway to planting groves of trees, this shows the large-scale earthwork and planning that goes into creating a landscape from scratch.
A before-and-after look at the 'Garden of Reflections'. The video starts with the raw brick planters under construction and transitions to the finished, densely planted garden with its beautiful brick pathways.
The beginning of the 'rising green'. This image shows the carport roof being prepared with soil, contoured and ready for the lawn to be laid. This is the foundational work for creating a sloping garden.
A site visit during the construction of the 'rising green' garden. This shows the hands-on process of building the stepped pathway and shaping the earth before the final planting and lawn installation.
My team at work, carefully shaping the mound and preparing the soil for planting. This hands-on approach ensures that every detail of the design is executed with precision and care.
This video captures the progress of a large farmlandscape. It shows the newly planted beds, the growing lawn, and the completed pool area, illustrating how the different zones of the landscape are coming together.
A video of the entrance plaza at dusk, shortly after completion. The concentric rings of stone are laid, and the space is ready for the planting to mature and soften the hardscape.
A 3D rendering of a residential landscape concept. Visualizations like this are a crucial first step, allowing clients to see the vision for the space, including the artful water feature and seating areas, before construction begins.
About From Concept to Creation
We do not start by planting. Our process always begins with site grading and soil preparation, which are essential for long-term growth. Whether we are contouring earth for a farmhouse or installing high-density drainage cells and geotextile membranes for a terrace garden, we ensure the structural foundation is ready for the greenery to flourish before any finishing touches appear.
Visualizing the Future
Every project starts with a conversation about how you intend to use the space. We begin with 3D visualizations and conceptual sketches to align on the scale, light, and movement of the area. This phase allows us to map out the 'hard' elements—the pathways, trellises, and seating—before we touch a single plant. It is about getting the proportions right so that the garden feels like a natural extension of your home rather than an afterthought.
Building the Foundation
Landscape architecture is as much about civil engineering as it is about botany. For our terrace projects, like the 'Rising Green' garden, we focus heavily on the technical layer. This means installing lightweight growth media to reduce structural load and concealed plumbing to ensure proper drainage. On ground-level sites, we adjust contours and mounds to create visual depth and privacy. We treat soil enrichment and site grading as non-negotiable steps because they dictate whether your garden survives the first monsoon or thrives for years.
The Living Layer
Once the structure is set, we introduce the softscape. We select plants based on local climatic conditions and the specific personality of the site. This involves a layered planting strategy, from specimen trees that provide shade to shrubs that create privacy and ground covers that bind the soil. This final stage is where the architecture softens, the birds arrive, and the space finally begins to breathe.
Biophilia Design Studio
We get a kick out of flipping through old site photos to see where design and nature clicked. We are not interested in templates; we spend time observing how the light hits your specific site before we pick a single plant. Our goal is simply to create a conversation between the architecture of your home and the nature around it.
