Signature Landscape & Architectural Design
I design landscapes that don't just sit alongside your home, but breathe with it. Here is a collection of my work where architecture and nature resonate as one.
This is the Tranquil Mango Haven, a retreat villa where architecture and landscape become one. As dusk settles, the lighting design brings the space to life, highlighting the seamless transition from the warm interiors to the cool, manicured lawn, embodying my goal of dissolving the boundaries between inside and out.
At the Tropical Manor, I designed this circular deck as a serene escape nestled within a grove of coconut palms. The ambient lighting and modern gothic architecture create a mood of grounded grandeur, offering a perfect spot to unwind and connect with nature.
In this urban 'House of Terraces,' I used a minimal trellis to cast linear shadows, creating a dynamic play of light and shade. The custom outdoor furniture and lush planters transform this city space into a private, functional, and beautiful outdoor living room.
Here at the Tranquil Mango Haven, the living area extends directly into the front garden. Large windows frame the vibrant bamboo and greenery, making the landscape an integral part of the interior experience and creating a single, continuous space.
An aerial view of the 'Pixelscapes' project at night reveals the power of landscape lighting. I designed the terraces and ground-level greens to glow, enhancing textures and forms to ensure the community spaces are beautiful and usable long after sunset.
A glimpse into the varied experiences at Tranquil Mango Haven. The top view shows the custom gate and entryway planting, while the bottom reveals the private pool area, designed as a sanctuary with a living green wall and natural stone accents.
Art is a vital part of my landscape narratives. This lotus installation, set against a textured stone wall and corten steel planter, serves as a focal point, symbolizing beauty and prosperity while enhancing the garden's aesthetic appeal.
Detail is everything. This pathway combines clean stone pavers with soft mondo grass, creating a textural contrast underfoot. The composition of hardscape and softscape is fundamental to how I approach every garden design.
About Featured
When you look at projects like 'Tranquil Mango Haven' or my 'House of Terraces,' pay attention to the thresholds. I do not treat the garden as a backdrop. I design the transition—using level shifts, drainage cells, and continuous flooring materials—so that your indoor living space and the landscape function as one continuous environment.
My design process is guided by a simple belief: if a space doesn't work, it isn't successful, no matter how beautiful it looks. Whether I am developing a sprawling farmhouse estate or an urban rooftop, I start by reading the site’s natural conditions.
The Technical Foundation
In my terrace projects, the primary challenge is structural load and drainage. I use lightweight soil mixes, cocopeat, and 20-30mm drainage cells to ensure that you get a lush garden without compromising the building's integrity. For hardscaping, I lean towards WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) decking and Corten steel planters because they age gracefully and require minimal upkeep in our climate.
Designing for Flow
In residential ground gardens, I focus on the interplay between hard and soft elements. I lay natural stone—like Kadappa or Granite—using patterns that invite movement, always separated by soft edges of mondo grass or gravel. The goal is to avoid the 'concrete jungle' feel. Even in commercial plazas, like my 'Pixelscapes' project, I use lighting not just for visibility, but to define mood, ensuring that the spaces remain inviting and usable long after sunset.
My Approach to Your Space
- Site Reading: I analyze light paths and wind patterns to determine where to place groves or trellises.
- Material Selection: I prioritize materials that handle Ahmedabad's weather, from weather-proof PU paint on MS structures to IP65-rated LED lighting.
- Continuity: I prefer a layered planting scheme—tall shrubs, mid-level flowering plants, and ground covers—to provide depth and privacy without feeling closed off.
If you have a blank canvas, whether it's a dry terrace or a flat villa plot, I am ready to help you shape it into an extension of your home.
Biophilia Design Studio
I am Vishal, and together with Shruti, we run Biophilia Design Studio. We find meaning in the quiet spaces where architecture meets nature, aiming to turn static plots into living, breathing retreats. We pour this philosophy into every stone, plant, and light we place.
