Learn Argentine Tango in Bangalore: A Path to Connection
Tango isn't just a sequence of steps; it's a conversation. Whether you’ve never danced or want to deepen your connection, join us in Bangalore to learn the art of the embrace, musicality, and community.
I'm Roopa, and I believe Tango is a meditative state of mind, not just a dance. Hear from one of my students how our classes make this partner dance form feel easy and natural, focusing on how you feel, not just how you look.
In my classes, leading and following are not tied to gender. I explain why these are roles of responsibility and choice that anyone can learn, because the best way to understand the dance is to walk in your partner's shoes.
I often say that Tango is a conversation, not a monologue. This is a core part of my philosophy. The dance becomes beautiful when it's a back-and-forth exchange between two active partners.
Here is a key technical tip from my TangoShastra method. I demonstrate how to create a stable and connected embrace by extending your body, not leaning on your partner. This ensures you both maintain your own balance.
I was honored to be featured in the Deccan Chronicle, sharing my journey of bringing Argentine Tango to India. This article highlights the special workshops and Milonga events we host to grow our vibrant dance community in Bangalore.
Curious to try Tango? My beginner-friendly classes are the perfect place to start. I hold them across Bangalore in Jayanagar, Koramangala, and Indiranagar, and you don't need any prior experience to join.
If you're not in Bangalore or can't make it to offline classes, you can still learn with me. My online sessions are designed to bring the essence of Tango and its focus on connection right to your home.
About this collection
When you join a session, you won't be rote-memorizing steps or performing for an audience. We prioritize the 'TangoShastra' method—a logical, step-by-step breakdown of how to connect with your partner and the music. We rotate partners during class to help you learn both the leading and following roles, ensuring you understand the dance as a two-way dialogue from day one.
Tango is a shared language. At Bangalore Tango Academy, we strip away the performance aspect to focus on the 'why' behind the movement. Our curriculum is built on the TangoShastra method, which treats the dance like a conversation rather than a rehearsed routine. This means you do not need to be a 'natural dancer' to start; in fact, most of our students walk in as complete beginners.
The Approach We focus on gender-neutral roles, emphasizing the embrace (abrazo) and musicality over complex figures. Because we rotate roles, you gain a fuller understanding of the dance. It is an inward, meditative practice that connects you to yourself and the person across from you.
What to Expect We hold workshops and courses across key areas in Bangalore, including Koramangala, Indiranagar, HSR, and Jayanagar. Whether you are signing up for an 8-session foundation course or a weekend bootcamp, you will find a diverse group of people aged 18 to 70. You do not need to bring a partner, as we manage our class ratios to ensure everyone gets to dance.
More Than Classes Beyond technical instruction, you are stepping into a community. We host regular Milonga social nights where the skills you learn in class come to life in a relaxed, real-world setting. If you cannot make it to our physical studios, our online sessions are designed to bring this same focus on connection right to your living room. Whether you are looking for a new hobby or a new way to express yourself, this is where you start.
