"Coat, sand, repeat." A student uses an orbital sander to prepare a surface for finishing, a critical step for achieving a smooth, professional look.
Students work together on the finishing stages of a project, carefully sanding the wooden frame to perfection before applying a final coat.
Our chief trainer provides guidance to students as they work on the assembly of a geometric table, ensuring every joint is perfect.
About this collection
This gallery provides a look into our daily operations and the specific projects our students undertake. We prioritize practical machine hours over classroom theory, meaning you spend your time actually programming CNC routers, operating panel saws, and executing complex joinery rather than just studying them.
Our training philosophy is rooted in the Institute of Wood Science & Technology environment. We focus on industrial readiness rather than just hobbyist carpentry.
The Workflow
Everything begins with a design in our lab using software like PYTHA and CATIA. Once the engineering drawings are precise, we move to the shop floor. You will get hands-on experience with:
- CNC Operations: Direct programming and operation of Biesse and Homag machines.
- Panel Processing: Using sliding table saws and edge banders for commercial-grade furniture.
- Traditional Joinery: Mastering the mortise and tenon, dowels, and furniture assembly without relying on hidden screws.
Industrial Exposure
A critical part of our diploma is the mandatory 6-month industrial internship. We believe that seeing a project through from a digital file to a finished piece of furniture in a factory setting is the only way to gain true expertise. This placement support bridges the gap between learning to build and building to scale.
Requirements & Logistics
- Batch Size: We limit intake to 20 students per batch. This allows our trainers to provide individual guidance on safety, tool calibration, and finishing techniques.
- Gear: Students are responsible for their own steel-toed boots and workwear.
- Facility: We provide the raw materials—from pine and teak to MDF and laminates—for your projects.
Our goal is to prepare you for the furniture industry, whether that means working for a large-scale manufacturer or setting up your own workshop. If you want to know about upcoming batch dates or have specific questions about the CNC training module, our team is ready to guide you.
Advanced Woodworking Training Centre
We are the Advanced Woodworking Training Centre. We run a no-nonsense program inside the Institute of Wood Science & Technology where we bridge the gap between your sketches and finished furniture. We don't just teach the theory of wood; we teach you how to build it to last.
