Indo-Western Gowns and Saree Upcycling
Transform your cherished silk saree into a modern gown or chic peplum top. I blend traditional zari textures with fresh, contemporary silhouettes you will actually wear.
A perfect example of transforming tradition into modern style. This client's old silk saree was repurposed into a sophisticated Indo-Western gown. I used the rich gold brocade for the bodice and sleeves to create a statement piece.
This vibrant red peplum top with bell sleeves was custom-made for a client. It features delicate floral embroidery and a flattering silhouette that can be paired with a skirt or trousers for a modern, festive look.
A detailed look at the craftsmanship of the red peplum top. This video shows the intricate floral embroidery, the neat finishing of the neckline, and the stylish tie-up detail on the open back.
About Indo-Western Gowns & Tops
When I repurpose your saree, I pay close attention to the fabric integrity. I use a combination of hard net can-can mesh to create the perfect volume and premium Taffeta or Santoon lining to ensure the structure holds up without feeling heavy or scratchy on your skin.
Your saree from your mother or grandmother is full of stories. Instead of letting it sit in your cupboard, we can bring it back to life. My process starts with a collaborative sit-down where we discuss what you want. Whether you imagine a floor-length upcycled saree gown for your big event or a trendy lehenga for festive functions, I ensure the outfit feels entirely like you while holding onto the nostalgia of the original piece.
Design and Construction
We spend time on motif placement to effectively utilize the Pallu for your yoke or sleeves. Depending on the length of your saree, I can create Anarkali, box-pleated, or umbrella-cut styles. For sleeve detailing, we can add puff, bell, or bridal elbow-length cuts to elevate the look.
Technical Specs
Each piece I build includes specific technical elements to ensure longevity. I include a padded bodice with high-quality cups and canvas fusing to keep the neckline wrinkle-free and stiff. For finishing, you get an invisible zipper, overlocking, and optional horsehair braid at the hemline to keep the flare consistent.
Wearable Art
If you want to push the style further, I offer hand-painted Tanjore art directly onto your new piece. This traditional art form, with its vibrant colors and gold leaf details, turns your outfit into something one-of-a-kind. I can also add zardosi, beadwork, or sequins depending on how much jazz you want. From Mother-daughter sets to custom Indo-Western gowns, I am here to help you turn those fabric memories into something new.
