Gouache and Mixed Media Art by Pavna
You know, gouache is like magic paint! It is vibrant, opaque, and lets me layer colors in ways I never could with watercolors. Welcome to my experimental space where I play with ink, gouache, and everything in between to bring a little extra joy to your world.
An example of my work with gouache, featuring delicate white flowers against a dark green background. The opacity of gouache allows for this beautiful contrast, making the flowers pop.

A short video showing the process and final result of a floral wreath painted with gouache. You can see my palette of vibrant, creamy colors in the background.
A watercolor sketch of a potted plant next to a beautiful blue door. This is from my travel sketchbook, where I capture interesting architectural details and scenes.

A study of yellow and white flowers against a solid blue background. Using gouache allows me to paint light colors over dark, which is a fun technique to explore.
A still life study of an apple and an orange, painted from life using gouache. This was great practice for capturing light, shadow, and form.
About this collection
If you are thinking about commissioning a piece, keep in mind that gouache is wonderfully opaque. Unlike watercolors, which are transparent, gouache allows me to paint light colors over dark backgrounds. This makes it perfect if you want a bold, high-contrast portrait or a vibrant floral illustration that really pops on your wall.
My journey with gouache started as an experiment, but now it is one of my absolute favorites! You know, there is this thrill in mixing the opacity of gouache with the sharp, crisp lines of ink that I just love. It allows me to build layers that you simply cannot achieve with traditional watercolors.
I use professional-grade White Nights paints for these pieces because the pigment load is just beautiful. Whether I am painting a field of daisies or a magical forest scene, I love how the colors stay rich and velvety once they dry.
For my mixed-media pieces, I often combine loose watercolor washes with intricate ink doodles. It is a very meditative process for me, and I love the way the two mediums talk to each other on the paper. If you want something one-of-a-kind, I am more than happy to chat about your ideas. Whether it is a couple portrait, a botanical study, or just something fun and abstract, I pour all my heart into every stroke. Let’s create some color together!
Okay I also love you ❣️🧿💋
