Explorations in Oil, Acrylic, and Pen Art

While hyper-realistic acrylics are my main focus, I love stepping out of my comfort zone to experiment. This gallery features my work in oil paints, abstract acrylic pouring, and pen sketching—showcasing the different textures and moods I explore when I’m not working on portraits.

A realistic pink rose painted with oils on A5 paper. Oil paints allow for beautiful, smooth blending, which is perfect for capturing the soft texture of flower petals.

A hand-held view of my oil painting of a pink rose. This piece is an example of the still life and botanical art I can create for you.

A still life painting of a cashew apple, created using oils on paper. The vibrant colors and smooth finish were achieved by carefully blending the oil paints.

Here is the finished 7.5"x5" cashew apple oil painting. This was a fun project to capture the unique shape and bright color of the fruit.

An acrylic painting of ocean waves crashing against a seawall. This piece was an exploration in capturing the movement and energy of water.

This video shows the process of an acrylic pour painting. It's a fun, abstract technique where you pour mixed paints onto a surface to create unpredictable and beautiful marbled patterns.

A throwback to a ballpoint pen drawing of a dahlia flower. This piece was done on a dark blue paper with a white pen, creating a striking negative space effect.

About Explorations in Oil & Other Mediums

When you commission a piece using these mediums, the timeline changes because materials like oil paints require significant drying time compared to acrylics or pens. For oil portraits specifically, I work in thin layers to capture that depth, so I recommend planning at least two weeks ahead to ensure the paint is perfectly cured before I can ship it to you safely.

Art is a continuous journey of learning, and I find that jumping between mediums keeps my creative gears turning. While acrylics are my go-to for their fast-drying properties and vibrancy, stepping into oil painting—like with the rose and cashew apple pieces you see here—forces me to slow down. Oil allows for a type of smooth blending that is incredibly difficult to replicate with other paints, making it perfect for soft textures and still-life studies.

Then there is the abstract side of things. Acrylic pouring is messy, unpredictable, and entirely liberating. Unlike a portrait where I am hyper-focused on every pore and hair strand, pouring is about letting the paint decide where it wants to go. It is a fantastic way to add a unique, one-of-a-kind pop of color to a space.

My pen and ink experiments, like the dahlia drawing, rely on a completely different set of skills: patience and precision with negative space. Whether it is a deep-blue ballpoint sketch or a detailed fine-liner piece, I treat every surface, whether it is canvas or Brustro paper, as a new challenge. If you are looking for something specific, or if you have an idea that doesn’t fit into a standard portrait commission, let’s chat. I am always open to mixing things up to create something that matches your aesthetic.

Hi, I’m Neha. I’m always dodging my comfort zone to try something new, whether it’s a goofy self-portrait in oils or a messy acrylic pour on a weekend afternoon. I’m just an artist in Mumbai who loves seeing what different tools can do on a blank canvas.
