I've captured the divine energy of Theyyam, a ritual performance art from Kerala. This painting highlights the performer's transformation into a deity, focusing on the elaborate headgear, intense expression, and the rich red and yellow pigments characteristic of this sacred tradition.
This is a close-up acrylic painting of a Kathakali performer's face on an 8x8 inch canvas. I focused on the iconic green 'Pacha' makeup, symbolizing a heroic character, and the dramatic expression conveyed through the eyes and lips.

About Vibrant Kerala Traditions
I paint each of these pieces using professional grade Fevicryl acrylics on cotton canvas boards. For the Kathakali and Theyyam faces, I prefer working on an 8x8 inch size because it lets me focus on the intense expressions and jewelry details. I finish every painting with a coat of gloss varnish to protect the colors and keep them vibrant for years.
My work here is all about capturing the energy of home. When I moved from Bangalore to Kochi, I brought these stories with me—the dramatic face paint of a Kathakali dancer, the power of a Theyyam performer, and the calm of a Kerala mural. - Kerala Mural Style: I love the flow of these traditional lines. Whether it's a deity or a floral motif, I use a traditional color palette that brings a peaceful, artistic vibe to any room.
