Singing Classes: Kannada Film and Folk Songs

From soulful Kannada film classics to traditional Bhava Geethe, learn to sing the melodies you love in a relaxed, judgment-free space.

While I am trained in classical music, I also love exploring Kannada film songs. Here is a moment of me enjoying a melody in our studio. My classes also include light music to help students sing the songs they love.

Here we are, singing a timeless Kannada song in tribute to the legendary Vishnuvardhan. These informal singing sessions are a great way for students to practice and enjoy music together.

This is a rendition of a beautiful Bhava Geethe. We also explore light classical and folk music in our classes, focusing on the emotion and storytelling within each song.

Singing a classic like 'Ee Sundara' from the movie Amruthavarshini is pure joy. I teach students how to approach such melodies, focusing on breath control and emotional expression.

About this collection

My sessions are not just about theory; we sit down with a harmonium to focus on emotional expression, breath control, and the specific 'Bhava' (feeling) of the song. Whether you are prepping for a local event or just want to sing your heart out without pressure, I adapt the pace to your comfort level.

When I started teaching, I realized many people love music but feel intimidated by the rigid structures of classical training. In this cluster, we break that down. My sessions focus on Kannada film songs, Bhava Geethe, and devotional music like Vachanas, all while using my Carnatic background to teach you the right breathing and pitch techniques.

You do not need prior knowledge to join. We use whiteboard sessions for rhythm and live harmonium support to keep the focus on finding your own 'sur' (melody). Whether you want to sing at our annual Arnav Habba or simply enjoy stress-free music sessions after work, we keep the atmosphere light and fun.

We generally focus on:

  • Breath Control & Pitch: Using basic Carnatic concepts like Sarali Varisai, adapted specifically for film music.
  • Emotional Expression: Capturing the storytelling and depth in folk and light music.
  • Performance: Building your confidence in a small, supportive group setting before you step out to sing for others.

We keep groups small to ensure everyone gets enough attention. If you are ever unsure about a rhythm or a specific note, ask away—that is exactly why we are here.
