About Outdoor & Nature Portraits
I rely exclusively on natural light for these sessions, so we will be working around the golden hour to get that specific soft glow. Since we will be shooting in public spaces like open fields, we keep the movement fluid and avoid heavy equipment so you feel comfortable rather than like you are on a film set.
Nature does most of the heavy lifting here, which is why I love these shoots. By using my Sony Alpha 7 IV paired with Sigma Prime lenses, I get that creamy bokeh and depth that makes you pop against the background.
How we work outdoors
We don't use artificial lights or reflectors. This is purely about capturing how the light interacts with the environment and with you. Because we are at public locations, we usually plan for 2 to 3 hours of shooting time. This allows us to walk around, find the best light, and let you settle into a natural rhythm.
Logistics to keep in mind
- Outfit changes: Since we are often in parks or open fields, we will need to coordinate changing logistics. Often, this means using a nearby cafe or resting spot, so bring clothes that are easy to layer.
- The Selection Process: I admit, I get a bit obsessive with picking the final shots. After the shoot, I go through everything to find the ones that have that 'perfect' feeling. It takes a few days, but you will receive high-end retouched images that feel true to the day we spent shooting.
This isn't about stiff posing. If you're feeling awkward, we'll talk, walk, and just let the moment happen until the camera captures the real you.
