About Classic Black & White

I shoot these in monochrome to strip away the noise and focus on texture, light, and your expression. Whether we are working in a studio or capturing a candid moment at home, I prioritize high-contrast lighting that makes the image pop without relying on color filters. It is about creating a portrait that looks as relevant in ten years as it does today.

When color is removed, the photograph becomes entirely about the subject. In my monochrome work, I look for the interplay of shadows and the specific light that hits a face or an outfit. This style is not just about converting a photo to black and white in post-production. It starts at the shoot with how I set up my Sony Alpha 7 IV and place the subject in relation to the light source, whether that is natural window light or a studio setup.

Why choose monochrome?

It is the most honest way to capture a portrait. It removes distractions and forces the viewer to look at the eyes, the pose, and the mood. For actors, this is often the preferred choice for headshots because it presents a clean, professional image that stands out in agency portfolios. For personal portraits, it adds a timeless, cinematic quality that feels more artistic and less like a standard snapshot.

Preparing for your shoot

Since we are not relying on the vibrancy of colors, textures become very important. Think about fabrics, layers, and patterns. A simple linen shirt or a structured blazer works beautifully in high-contrast black and white. If you are unsure what to wear, we can chat about the vibe you want to set before the shoot day. I work across Mumbai and Delhi, and we can shoot anywhere from your living room to a rented studio floor.

I am Anuj, and honestly, monochrome photography is my quietest, most favorite way to tell a story. When I am not chasing light on Mumbai streets, I am in the studio or your living room, stripping back the color to find the real vibe in your expression.
