Botanical Eco-Printing & Hand-Painting
We transform fabric into art using fresh flowers, leaves, and natural pigments. Every yard is hand-printed and completely unique for your brand.
This video shows the basics of eco-printing, from preparing the fabric to scattering temple marigold petals. This sustainable method transfers the flower's natural color directly onto the cloth, creating beautiful, organic patterns.
Have you ever seen basil prints? Here, I demonstrate my double print technique, using a fresh basil leaf to create a perfect, detailed impression on the fabric. This method captures the delicate veins of the leaf.
This is one of my favorite prints from the season, featuring hand-painted wavy lines on natural cotton. The organic, flowing design is created with a natural black pigment, perfect for modern and minimalist collections.
A close-up view of the hand-painted wavy line print. You can see the texture of the fabric and the subtle variations in the lines, which is the beauty of a handcrafted textile.
Another look at the season's favorite hand-painted print. This design can be customized in terms of scale and color for B2B orders to fit your brand's aesthetic.
The detail of the hand-painted wavy lines shows the artistry involved. This technique allows for bespoke patterns that cannot be replicated by machine printing.
About Botanical Eco-Printing & Hand-Painting
We don't use screens or mass machines here. Every print you see—from the detailed veins of a basil leaf to our hand-painted wavy lines—is placed by hand. Because we use fresh, seasonal materials like marigolds and rose petals, no two meters are ever exactly the same, giving your collection a distinct, living character that machine printing just cannot replicate.
Our eco-printing process is a collaboration with nature, which is why it requires a little patience. We use a steam-bundling technique where fresh botanicals are arranged on the fabric and then steamed to transfer the pigment directly into the fibers.
The Process Behind the Print
- Seasonal Sourcing: We use whatever the season offers—marigolds in bloom, fresh basil, or fallen leaves. This ensures your collection reflects the current cycle of nature.
- Natural Fixatives: Instead of harsh chemicals, we use complex mordants like iron and alum to modify colors and lock them into the fabric, making them durable for everyday use.
- Hand-Painted Details: For designs like our wavy lines, we use natural iron-black pigments. This isn't a repeat pattern; our hands create every curve, ensuring your textile has an organic flow.
Practical Details for Brands
Because this is a manual, pigment-transfer process, we typically require 3 to 4 weeks for production. This covers the sourcing of fresh materials, the labor-intensive arranging of petals, and the final curing. We work on high-quality natural fabrics like Mulberry silk and cotton. If you need a specific aesthetic—whether it’s minimalist, bold, or floral-heavy—let’s chat about how we can adapt these techniques to your brand's vision. Please note that our minimum order quantity is 40 meters per design, as every batch requires a dedicated steam-bundling cycle.
Dyehome
I’m the soul behind Dyehome, where we turn nature into textiles. My work is simple: I use real leaves, flowers, and medicinal herbs to print on fabric, ensuring everything is as healthy for your skin as it is for the planet.
