Custom Dance Drama & Theatrical Costume Design
Bringing stories to life on stage requires costumes that move, breathe, and perform right alongside the artist.
Scenes from the captivating dance drama 'Tapahsakti', for which I had the pleasure of designing the costumes. Each outfit was created to match the character and the mood of the performance.
Costume design can also be fun and whimsical. I loved bringing this Winnie the Pooh inspired look to life for a client, proving that any character you can imagine, I can help create.
About Costumes for Dance Dramas & Theatrical Productions
When you are performing, the last thing you want is a costume that restricts your movement or gets heavy with sweat. At Alankriti, we engineer our dance drama outfits with structural integrity, using reinforced seams and high-grade, moisture-wicking linings, so you can focus entirely on your performance, not your attire.
Performance Engineering
Every dance piece I design is created with the stage in mind. Whether it is a mythological character or a contemporary group piece, the fabric must withstand the rigors of performance. For Kathak, I use the kali panel method to construct 12-meter flare Anarkalis that fan out perfectly during spins. For larger troupes, I prioritize quick-change designs using Velcro, sturdy hooks, and drawstrings, ensuring every performer looks polished without any backstage stress.
Our Collaborative Process
I believe costume design is a conversation. When we work together, we start with your vision, choreography, and the narrative of your production. We select fabrics like Art Silk or Georgette that not only look rich under stage lights but also provide the necessary durability for repeated rehearsals. I handle individual sizing for every group member to ensure the costumes fit properly, as nothing ruins a scene quite like an ill-fitting outfit.
Managing Stage Realities
Performance wear needs specific finishes. I often add wire-pico or horsehair braid edging to keep hemlines in place, and use sweat-wicking Mulmul cotton linings to keep dancers cool. From initial sketches to the final fitting, my goal is to give you a look that is truly hatke while ensuring your dancers feel comfortable enough to give their best performance. If you have a specific theme or a demanding choreography, let us discuss how to make your costumes work for you.
