Our Design Process and Craftsmanship
Creating the perfect outfit involves more than just a sketch. It is about selecting the right fabric, ensuring the right fit, and making sure the piece moves with you. Here is a look at how we turn your vision into reality.
The foundation of any great costume is the fabric. Here is a look at some of the beautiful muslin prints I work with, available in a variety of vibrant colors and patterns.
About Our Design Process & Craftsmanship
When we start, I do not just ask what you want, I ask what you need the outfit to do. Whether it is a Kathak Anarkali that requires a 12-meter flare for your chakkars or a lightweight lehenga for a sangeet performance, we decide on the fabric and construction technique together before a single cut is made. It is about ensuring your costume supports your performance, not just looks good on a hanger.
From Vision to Fabric
Every project begins with a conversation. Before we touch a needle, we sit down to talk about your choreography, your venue, and your comfort level. Whether you need a heavy Kathak Anarkali that requires a 12-meter flare to handle complex spins or a lightweight, mirror-work set for high-energy Garba, the construction changes based on your needs.
The Selection Process
We start by picking fabrics that actually serve the purpose. For stage performance, we focus on durability and breathability. You will often see me working with breathable muslins for everyday wear or structured silk blends for stage costumes that need to hold their shape under harsh lighting. We do not guess the fit. We measure it. Whether you are in South City II or visiting from across the NCR, every piece is made to measure.
Why the Technical Details Matter
It is not enough for an outfit to look pretty, it has to perform. My costumes feature reinforced stitching, sweat-absorbent linings, and carefully balanced hemlines. If you have a specific vision, like a mythological character costume for a school play or a contemporary fusion set, we map out the embroidery and cuts to ensure the outfit is hatke (unique) without being cumbersome.
Your outfit should feel like a second skin, allowing you to focus on your performance rather than adjusting your straps or worrying about the fit.
Alankriti by Rachna Arvind
I am Rachna, and at Alankriti, I believe your clothes should move exactly the way you do. I spend my time obsessing over fabrics and stitching so that when you step on stage or into a celebration, you do not have to think about your outfit once.
