Mythological and Cultural Shadow Stories
Hand shadows are more than shapes. With my children, we tell the stories of our roots—from Panchatantra tales to festival legends—using nothing but our hands and a bit of light.
A scene from our Janmashtami special, depicting Lord Krishna and the villagers of Vrindavan. Our mythological shadow plays are created with great care and devotion.
Our hand shadow greeting for the festival of Vishu. We can create custom visual stories and greetings for any festival or special occasion, available for both live and virtual events.
About Mythological & Cultural Stories
To get the best shadow quality, we need total darkness at the venue and a stage space of at least 12ft by 10ft. Whether it is for a cultural event or a festival, we set up our own screen and professional lighting to ensure the stories look sharp and clear for every member of the audience.
Shadow play is a bridge to our past. My children and I—often known as the Shadow Siblings—work to keep these oral traditions alive through Neralu-Belaku, or the play of shadow and light. We do not just perform; we craft a narrative that connects with the audience.
How We Work
When you book us for a festival or school program, we tailor the storytelling to the occasion. For events like Janmashtami or Vishu, we develop specific sequences that resonate with the theme of the day. Because our art relies on precision, we bring our own high-intensity point-source lights and rear projection screens to guarantee the quality of the shadows.
Performance Details
- Duration: Our signature musical storytelling shows typically last 20 to 25 minutes.
- Custom Stories: If you have a specific message or a company history you want told through shadows, we can build a custom storyboard for you. This includes rehearsal time to sync our movements with your preferred audio or brand logo.
- Setup: We handle the screen and lighting. All we ask from your venue is a space that allows for complete blackout near the stage.
Language is never a barrier—we are comfortable performing in English or Kannada to ensure the story reaches everyone. It is a joy to share these tales, and we look forward to bringing a bit of wonder to your next gathering.
