Hand Shadowplay and Traditional Storytelling
Namaskara. My family and I use hands, light, and shadows to tell stories that bring out the child in everyone.
With just our hands and a light, we create entire worlds. Here, you can see multiple hands from our family working together to bring a family of deer to life on the screen.
My son and daughter performing our Neralu - Belaku show at the Ballary Utsav. It is a blessing to share our hand shadow art with such a wonderful, large audience.
We love telling stories from our Indian epics. This is a small piece we created for Janmashtami, showing Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan hill with our hands.
Our hand shadow stories are perfect for children. We bring classic animal fables and Panchatantra tales to life in a way that is simple, fun, and engaging for all ages.
I am always grateful for the recognition our art receives. This award inspires me to continue pushing the boundaries of shadow storytelling and carry on our family tradition.
A quiet moment backstage with my son and daughter. Performing together as a family is the greatest joy of this journey.
About Featured
When you see our hands on screen, it looks like magic, but the real secret is the setup. For our shadow art to truly pop, your venue must allow for 100 percent darkness. Even a little light leakage from windows or stage lights can wash out the details, so please ensure your space can handle this requirement before we finalize.
Our shadow storytelling, or Neralina Aata, is a family journey. When you book us, you are not just hiring an artist; you are inviting our family to share our craft. My children, Pooja and Pratheek, and I work in harmony to manipulate light and shadow, turning simple hand movements into birds, animals, and characters from our epics like the Panchatantra.
Why Hand Shadowplay?
Shadow art creates a unique atmosphere that digital screens often miss. It is tactile and nostalgic. We blend traditional storytelling with a modern touch, sometimes using hybrid techniques that combine our hand-made shadows with subtle digital backgrounds to enhance the narrative. Whether it is Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan hill or a simple fable about forest animals, our goal is to bring the story to life for your audience.
Requirements for a Perfect Show
- Total Darkness: As mentioned, this is non-negotiable for a crisp projection.
- Space: We need a minimum stage space of 12ft by 10ft to set up our screens and lighting equipment comfortably.
- Audience Interaction: Our shows are best enjoyed when we can interact with the crowd, making it perfect for intimate family gatherings, schools, or cultural festivals in Bengaluru and beyond.
We customize the experience based on your needs. For corporate events, we can even integrate your company logo or a specific message into the shadow act. If you are not in the city, we also offer high-quality virtual shadow shows that stream directly to your devices, ensuring that distance does not come in the way of a good story.
