Why Balcony Gardening Feels Like Home

My balcony garden is where I switch off from city chaos and feel close to prakriti (nature). Even in a tiny space, I find peace turning plain corners into something green. I’ve built gardens on hostel balconies and new city flats, so I know the struggle of no space and no budget.

What Can You Grow Here?

If you think growing food in a small apartment is impossible, trust me - container vegetable gardening is a game changer. I’ve raised tomatoes, brinjals, chillies, and even corn in pots. Gourds like lauki and karela (bottle gourd and bitter gourd) climb up DIY trellis for balcony veggies. My leafy greens - spinach, lettuce, and Malabar spinach - thrive on just a bit of sunlight. Flowers? Loads! Roses, marigolds, zinnias, plus trailing pothos and syngonium for green vibes.

Jugaad & Budget Tricks

No need for fancy stuff. I use old dabba (boxes), coffee mugs, and big plastic sacks for planting. Love sharing low-budget balcony planter hacks. Saving seeds and using kitchen scraps means less waste, more growth.

Real Talk: Bugs, Wins & Fails

Not everything goes perfectly. Pests show up, especially aphids, but simple fixes like neem oil work. Sometimes plants look sad, sometimes they surprise me - like ladybugs helping out. I’ll share all of it, the good and the bug-ly.
