I transform your favourite photographs into detailed, hand-drawn graphite portraits. Here is a look at the process behind turning a digital image into a piece of art.

This video shows the reference photo next to my finished sketch. It's the best way to see how accurately I can capture your likeness.

Here you can see the client's original photo next to my finished pencil sketch. My goal is to create a realistic and artistic version of your memory.

"Wait for the end" to see this sketch of a follower come to life. This video shows the drawing process from outline to finished portrait.

A client requested a drawing, and this video shows the result. I added a touch of color to the saffron scarf as requested.

The first step is always a clean outline. This is a work-in-progress shot of a portrait before the detailed shading begins.

About From Photo to Art: The Process

When you send me a reference photo, clarity is the most important factor. I work best from high-resolution images where the facial features are clear and the lighting is consistent. If you provide a sharp, well-lit photo, I can accurately capture every detail, from the specific texture of your hair to the smallest facial expression, making your final graphite drawing look truly authentic.

The transformation from a digital file on your phone to a physical piece of art on paper involves several careful steps. I work primarily with graphite and charcoal, building the image layer by layer. I use acid-free, high-GSM cartridge paper like Fabriano or Brustro, which ensures the paper doesn't yellow or degrade over time, keeping the sketch preserved for years.

Once the sketching and detailed shading are complete, I apply a professional fixative spray. This is a critical step; it protects the graphite from smudging and prevents the contrast from fading during transit. When you receive your order, the portrait will be either rolled in a sturdy PVC tube or flat-packed between hardboards to ensure it reaches you safely, ready for framing.

Whether you are commissioning a single portrait, a couple's sketch, or a large-format piece for a deity, the goal remains the same: to create a lifelike representation. If you are merging multiple photos into one drawing, make sure the lighting on the subjects matches as closely as possible to maintain a natural look in the finished artwork.
