The Chimes Difference: Our Montessori Philosophy
Curious about what makes our Montessori classrooms unique? We are breaking down the science and heart behind our child-led approach.
Myth: Montessori is only for active children. Fact: Montessori helps all children become independent at their own pace through self-care and decision-making.
Myth: Montessori means kids can do whatever they want. Fact: We emphasize freedom within limits, fostering responsibility in a structured, respectful environment.
Myth: Montessori doesn't prepare kids for the real world. Fact: Montessori IS the real world. Children cook, clean, and learn life skills from the start.
What if learning felt like freedom? At Chimes, we honor this by trusting every child with the freedom to choose, grow, and be themselves.
Our school is built on a legacy of learning, bringing the timeless principles of Dr. Maria Montessori to life for over two decades.
Freedom in a Montessori classroom builds self-control, not rebellion. Children choose from guided options within a safe, structured setup.
At Chimes, freedom is balanced with responsibility and respect. It's not "do whatever you want," it's "choose what's right for you."
About this collection
Many parents ask us if 'freedom' in a Montessori classroom means the kids just do whatever they want. It is actually the opposite. We teach children to choose activities within a clear, structured framework. This helps them build self-control and deep concentration, turning freedom into a tool for responsibility rather than a lack of direction.
At Chimes, our philosophy is rooted in the belief that children are naturally eager to learn if given the right environment. We call this the 'Prepared Environment.'
The Role of Freedom
In our Basavanagudi school, freedom does not mean chaos. It means giving a child the independence to choose their 'work'—be it pouring water, using sandpaper letters, or exploring tactile maps—while we provide the boundaries and guidance to ensure that choice is meaningful. When a child chooses their activity, they engage deeper and learn faster.
The Prepared Environment
We do not use generic worksheets. Our classrooms are equipped with authentic wooden Nienhuis-style materials that offer tactile feedback, helping children understand abstract concepts like math and language through concrete, hands-on experience.
Mixed-Age Learning
Our classrooms are not separated by grade levels. We follow a mixed-age group structure (2-6 years) because it mirrors the real world. Older children naturally mentor the younger ones, reinforcing their own understanding, while younger children look up to their peers and learn social cooperation.
Our Teachers as Guides
Our educators are observers first. We step back to let the child struggle, think, and solve problems on their own. This builds resilience. We are not there to lecture; we are there to prepare the space so your child can discover their own potential at their own pace. Whether it is practical life skills like cutting vegetables or emotional intelligence exercises, every activity is designed to prepare them for life, not just for the next school year.
Chimes Montessori
We started Chimes because we wanted school to feel like a second home, not a place where kids are rushed. We have spent over a decade watching children lead their own learning, and it is still the most rewarding thing we do. We do not lecture; we create a space where your child's curiosity does the talking.
