About Beyond the Notes: Speech, Drama & Musical Theatre
Unlike typical drama programs that rush toward grade exams, our focus here is on the process. We use improvisation games, character work, and vocal projection exercises to help students, from shy toddlers to expressive teenagers, learn how to navigate their emotions and speak with clarity. Whether you are prepping for a school play or just trying to find your confidence in public speaking, you are not here for a certificate, you are here to discover your unique voice.
We run these classes in collaboration with the Jeff Goldberg Studio, ensuring you get training that focuses on method acting, body language, and spatial awareness. The goal is not to create professional actors overnight, but to give students a release from the academic pressure of school and a safe playground for their imagination.
Why This Works
Kids today face immense pressure to perform, and our Speech and Drama classes serve as an antidote. Through theater, children learn introspection and emotional intelligence. They do not just memorize lines, they learn to feel the weight of their words. We emphasize diaphragm breathing for clear diction, improvisation to help them think on their feet, and musical theatre techniques that combine song with movement.
The Class Experience
We keep batch sizes tight, typically between 8 to 12 students, so everyone gets ample stage time. You will find no hiding in the back rows here. Every student is encouraged to explore a range of emotions, from 'unbothered' to 'angry', in a supportive environment where making mistakes is just part of the rehearsal.
Who It’s For
These workshops are designed for anyone wanting to break out of their shell. If you have a child who struggles with stage fright or just wants to be more expressive, this is their space. If you are an adult looking to improve your public speaking or storytelling skills, our techniques are just as relevant. We balance the discipline of performance with the 'Joie de Vivre' that defines our academy, ensuring that every Friday session is as fun as it is educational.
