Western Vocal Training and Band Performance
Learn how to command a stage. We combine dedicated vocal training with live band jam sessions, teaching you mic control, projection, and the art of playing as part of a group.
For those interested in Western vocal performance, we provide a full band setup to practice in a real-world environment. This clip shows a rehearsal session with our students on vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, getting ready for a live performance.
We regularly host teacher-student jam sessions to make learning interactive and collaborative. It's a great way for students to apply their skills, learn from experienced musicians, and feel the energy of playing with a live band.
This is a snapshot from a practice session with two of our students, one on vocals and the other on keyboard. We encourage collaboration, and many of our students connect here to practice and create music together.
Proper mic technique is essential for any vocalist. We invest in professional-grade equipment, like these Samson Q6 dynamic microphones, to ensure our students learn on the same kind of gear they will use on stage.
About Western Vocal & Band Performance
Getting on a mic is not just about volume. Whether you are prepping for a cover or a live set, we teach you how to handle dynamic microphones like the Samson Q6s we use here to control your proximity effect and gain. You will not just learn scales; you will learn how to hold your own when the drums and guitars kick in.
Performance Meets Technique
Most singers struggle when they step out of the shower and into a studio. Music is not played in a vacuum, and to sound good, you need to hear how your voice fits into a full mix. At Zen Music Academy, we bridge that gap. You start with core vocal projection and breath control, then move to live rehearsal sessions with our band.
The Gear and The 'Bariiki'
We do not just talk about technique; we use the gear. You get hands-on experience with professional-grade dynamic microphones. We teach you how to adjust your distance from the mic to manage gain without distorting the sound. It is these details, or 'bariiki', that separate a hobbyist from a performer. How do you signal a drummer? When do you step back for a lead instrument? Our teachers guide you through these moments in real-time, helping you build a stage presence that feels natural rather than rehearsed.
Join The Jam
Whether you are in our Mira Road or Vasai studio, the setup is consistent and professional. We host regular teacher-student jams because we believe music is a social skill. You will learn to collaborate, listen to other instruments, and perform with confidence. If you are ready to stop singing along to tracks and start performing with a band, come in and try a session.
