Kids Art Classes Inspired by Women Masters
Let your child discover the worlds of Mary Blair, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Amrita Sher-Gil. We turn art history into a colorful playground where every kid learns to express their own unique vision.
My "Women in Art" summer classes are all about celebrating the amazing female artists who changed the world. We learn their stories and get inspired by their work.
We start our Mary Blair project by studying her iconic, geometric castle designs for Disney's "It's a Small World." Her use of color and shape is a fantastic lesson in composition.
Mary Blair was a master of color and imagination. I introduce her as a pioneer of modern art in animation to show kids how art can tell stories in so many ways.
The first step is sketching out the concept. Here, a student plans her Mary Blair inspired castle, thinking about how to combine different geometric shapes.
This video shows the entire process, from sketching and painting to the final reveal. You can see the focus and creativity as each child builds their own colorful world.
The finished piece. This young artist did an amazing job capturing the whimsical style of Mary Blair while adding her own creative touches.
For our Georgia O'Keeffe lesson, we start by looking at how she painted flowers up close, turning them into beautiful abstract forms.
I introduce Georgia O'Keeffe as the "Mother of American Modernism." We talk about how she saw the world differently and encourage kids to do the same in their art.
The goal is to create a modern floral art piece inspired by O'Keeffe's signature style of enlarging and focusing on the details of a flower.
Watch as my students bring their flowers to life. They learn to blend colors and create soft gradients to show the delicate curves of the petals, just like O'Keeffe.
About Inspired by the Masters: Women in Art
Instead of just lecturing about history, we pick a specific style—like Mary Blair’s geometric castle designs—and guide the kids to build their own version on canvas. It takes the pressure off being perfect and focuses entirely on color, shape, and pure imagination.
Learning about famous artists is one of the quickest ways to spark a child's imagination. In our Women in Art series, we move away from textbooks and dive straight into the hands-on magic that defined these icons.
We start with Mary Blair’s whimsical, geometric approach to color, which is a fantastic way for beginners to understand composition without feeling overwhelmed by perspective. When we move to Georgia O’Keeffe, we look at nature differently. We use real flowers as models, encouraging kids to zoom in, observe the delicate curves, and experiment with bold gradients.
For older students or those interested in human figures, we explore the depth in Amrita Sher-Gil’s work. This is not about copying their paintings line-for-line. It is about understanding their inspiration and translating that into a personal project.
What’s involved in every session:
- Small group attention: We keep batches small, so every artist gets the guidance they need.
- All materials included: From canvases and acrylics to brushes and palette knives, we handle the setup and the cleanup.
- Zero pressure: Whether your child is 6 or 14, shy or loud, the goal is simple. Get messy, try something new, and leave with a piece of art they’re proud to hang at home.
We are located in West Punjabi Bagh and offer flexible weekly modules. If you want a summer filled with color rather than screens, this is where your child belongs.
