Backbends and chakrasana
Wheel pose and its variations, camel, wild thing and yoga wheel backbends, with my chakrasana tutorial.
Final position of a chakrasana variation, one leg lifted high from wheel pose.
Step two of my chakrasana tutorial: go into the full wheel with hands and feet grounded.
Step one: lie back, bend the knees and set your hands by your ears before pressing up.
How I came into the variation, shared as a slide in the same tutorial.
A chakrasana sequence on the lawn, moving in and out of wheel pose.
Camel pose on the terrace grass, reaching back with one arm to open the chest.
Chakrasana with feet raised on the sofa, balancing my chakras one asana at a time.
Backbend with feet walking up the wall, a deeper way into the wheel.
Backbend over a yoga wheel, legs reaching up while the wheel supports the spine.
Shoulder stand style backbend with a yoga wheel under the hips.
About Backbends and Chakrasana
My chakrasana tutorial breaks the pose into three slides: set your hands by your ears, press up into the wheel, then lift one leg for the final variation.
Backbends on this page
Chakrasana, or wheel pose, in many forms: from the floor, with feet on a sofa, walking up a wall and on the lawn. Camel and wild thing on my terrace. Backbends supported by a yoga wheel, and an elbowstand backbend using the wheel and the wall together.
Learning wheel pose
A backbend opens the chest, shoulders and hip flexors at the same time, so it is usually built slowly. Props like the yoga wheel help you feel the shape before you hold it alone. The tutorial here breaks chakrasana into steps you can follow.
In my words
"Balancing my chakras in chakrasana, one asana at a time."
