About The Little Details
These detail shots are all about patience. I find they work best when your baby is in a deep, peaceful sleep, usually right after a full feed. We don't rush or force any position—I create a calm, quiet environment so your baby feels completely secure, letting us focus on those tiny, perfect features without any stress.
It is easy to focus on the full-body portraits, but the true essence of those early days is often found in the microscopic details. A baby’s growth happens so quickly that their features change almost daily. My approach to detail photography is rooted in simplicity and connection.
When I photograph your baby’s tiny hands or feet, I am not just taking a picture; I am documenting the scale of their arrival. By using your hands as a frame—a parent’s steady, protective touch—I show just how delicate and precious your new addition is.
Why Black & White?
Many of these images are shot in black and white by design. I love this style for detail shots because it removes the distraction of color, allowing you to focus entirely on the texture of the skin, the curve of a toe, or the strength in a tiny fist. It turns a simple photograph into a piece of art that feels timeless.
Preparing for these shots
You do not need special props for these; the 'prop' is the bond between you and your baby. Whether we are in my Santacruz studio or at your home, my primary focus is safety. I use gentle heating and soft fabrics to ensure your baby is comfortable, and we always move at your baby's pace. If they need a break for feeding or a cuddle, we stop. The session is for you, not the clock.
