The Guru-Shishya Parampara: The Sacred Archery Lineage
In our Gurukulam, archery is more than a sport; it is a sacred exchange of knowledge, trust, and discipline between teacher and student.
A disciple kneels to receive the bow, a profound symbol of the Guru-Shishya relationship. In this moment, it is not just a tool being passed, but a lineage, a responsibility, and a sacred trust.
"For a disciple, the Guru is the true birth." I do not see myself as a mere instructor, but as a guide responsible for nurturing the spiritual warrior within each student who comes to me.
Here, I present an arrow to a student, an act symbolizing the transfer of knowledge. Each arrow they shoot carries with it the teachings and blessings of the entire lineage.
In our Gurukulam, learning is a personal exchange. I take the time to speak with my students, to understand their journey, and to offer the specific guidance they need to progress on their path.
A moment of complete surrender and reverence. This act of 'Sashtanga Namaskar' from a disciple to his Guru is the ultimate expression of trust and respect in our tradition, signifying readiness to receive knowledge.
About The Guru-Shishya Parampara: The Sacred Bond
When you enter our Gurukulam, you are not just a student. You are a disciple in a lineage. Our daily routine begins at 4:30 AM with Vedic chanting. The act of offering a Sashtanga Namaskar is not ritual alone, but a genuine act of surrender. It prepares your mind to receive the wisdom of Dhanurveda before you ever touch a bow.
Dhanurvidya is a journey of self-mastery, not a short-term course. This is why the Guru-Shishya Parampara is central to our retreats in Tirupati, Hyderabad, and Vizianagaram. Many expect to simply learn how to hold a bow, but I guide you to understand why you are holding it.
The Living Tradition
In the ancient Gurukula system, learning happens through observation and participation. You will live alongside fellow seekers, sharing Satvik meals and participating in the same daily austerities. The bow is treated as a sacred instrument, often blessed during our Ayudha Puja ceremonies.
What You Experience
- Foundational Discipline: We emphasize posture and breath control long before moving targets are introduced.
- Spiritual Alignment: Yoga and meditation sessions frame your training, helping you achieve the focus required for true archery.
- The Lineage: You will study the Dhanurveda shlokas, connecting your practice to the warriors of the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
This is not a space for tourists. It is for those who are ready to rise early, step away from digital distractions, and commit to the discipline of a warrior. Whether you are 10 or 75, if you arrive with a sincere heart, you will be taught. My goal is to ensure that when you leave, you carry a piece of this tradition with you, and perhaps, a stronger sense of your own inner veerta, or bravery.
