Intensive, year-round training for swimmers (8-16 yrs) looking to transition from casual practice to state-level competitive meets.

This is my 5:30 AM view, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Behind me are the NMSA Marlins, our youth competitive team, putting in the work. They are learning about discipline, teamwork, and grit, lessons that will serve them long after they leave the pool.

Our 'All Stars' test set. This isn't a competition, it's a challenge against yourself, including a 500m non-stop freestyle, a 200m Individual Medley, and more. This is how we build the endurance and versatility required for competitive swimming.

Demonstrations are a key part of my coaching. Here, I'm showing a young swimmer the correct body position and pull for their stroke. Visual cues help them understand the technique, and they are quick to apply what they see.

Welcome to the team! These talented swimmers just graduated from our pre-competitive squad to the NMSA Marlins. We celebrated their promotion with a fun session, even in the Bangalore rain.

The pure joy of moving up to the competitive team. These kids have worked hard year-round, and now they're ready to start racing at swim meets. Their energy and enthusiasm are contagious.

The girl squad, rocking their pink suits and team caps. This wasn't planned, but it shows the fun and friendship that develops within the team. A strong team spirit is just as important as fast swimming.

It's not all serious training. Moments of fun and camaraderie like this are what make being part of a team so special. These swimmers push each other in the pool and support each other out of it.

Meet our incredible mother-daughter duo, Sonal and Aadhya. Sonal is a Masters State medalist, and Aadhya is a rising star in our pre-competitive team. It's inspiring to see families share a passion for the sport and achieve their goals together.

Look at the pure, unadulterated joy on these faces. This is our advanced and pre-competitive group at the Domlur pool. We teach skills, but we also build a love for the water that lasts a lifetime.

Children are our future, and keeping them active and fit is our mission. We love finding our inner child and celebrating moments of pure fun in the pool with our swimmers.

About NMSA Marlins: Youth Champions (8-16 yrs)

If you are looking for a casual weekend splash, this is not the right fit. We run on a strict performance-based squad system designed for kids who want to race. To join the Marlins, swimmers are required to complete our 'All Stars' test set, which includes a 500m non-stop freestyle and a 200m individual medley. This baseline ensures every swimmer in the lane is physically prepared for the pace of competitive meets.

Building Competitive Swimmers

This squad is where technique meets grit. We move beyond basic laps to focus on race strategy, endurance, and technical precision. Training here is about consistency, not just talent. We break down the start, the turn, and the finish of all four competitive strokes—Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle—ensuring swimmers have the versatility needed for the Individual Medley (IM).

The Training Structure

We operate with a focus on year-round progression. The squad follows a cycle of sprints, endurance sets, and dryland conditioning. We use video feedback to help swimmers identify asymmetry in their stroke and drag points that are slowing them down. It’s not just about swimming fast; it’s about swimming smart. Swimmers are placed into squads based on their performance in our regular time trials, ensuring they are always training with peers at a similar level.

Where We Train

We rotate between specific facilities in Bangalore to handle different phases of training:

  • Wilson Garden: Our full 50m Olympic pool for endurance and volume.
  • Domlur (Nalapad Academy): 25m covered pool ideal for stroke correction.
  • Koramangala (Social Grid): 25m pool for technique-focused sessions.

What to Expect

Expect 5 to 6 sessions per week. We train rain or shine, starting early. We emphasize mental strength as much as physical capability, teaching kids how to handle the pressure of race day. Our goal is to develop athletes who understand the discipline required to improve their personal bests, whether they are targeting local meets or aiming for state-level qualification.

I’m Venkat, and for the last 20 years, I’ve been living and breathing swimming. I don’t just teach strokes; I build competitors. My team, the NMSA Marlins, is where I pour all that experience into kids who want to stop splashing and start racing.
