About Reformer Workouts
You might think Pilates is just about flexibility, but on the Reformer, we use springs to turn up the intensity. The machine pushes back, which means you cannot rely on momentum—every single rep requires total muscle control. If you have any history of back pain or joint sensitivity, I always start by adjusting your spring tension to make the movement safer before we focus on building strength.
The Reformer is a tool for precision. Unlike mat-based exercises where gravity is your only resistance, the Reformer uses a system of springs, straps, and pulleys that provide variable resistance. This means you can challenge yourself by adding heavier springs for leg work or using lighter, more nuanced resistance for arm and core sequences.
My approach revolves around the 'neutral spine'. When you are on the carriage, every move—from footwork to lunges—is designed to teach your body to maintain its natural alignment. This is critical for anyone dealing with day-to-day desk fatigue, lower back pain, or those returning to fitness after an injury. You are not just moving to burn calories; you are training your muscles to function efficiently.
We use Merrithew Stott equipment at our Cunningham Road and Indiranagar locations. These machines are versatile enough to accommodate everything from high-intensity athletic conditioning to restorative rehab. Whether you are coming in for a group Reformer batch where we focus on synchronized rhythm, or a private session where we customize every exercise to your biomechanics, the goal remains the same: building a body that moves without pain.
Namrata Purohit
I started The Pilates Studio with my dad to bring a smarter way of training to India. I do not care how heavy you can lift; I care that you are engaging the right muscles and protecting your spine. When you train with us, we look at your posture first so every session actually changes how you feel and move.
