Featured Furniture Makeovers and Upcycling Projects
I believe old furniture is not just wood, it is a collection of memories waiting for a second chance. This gallery highlights my most impactful transformations, where forgotten pieces became the heart of a home.
This 42-year-old metal almirah held so many memories for my client. I transformed it from a rustic piece to a beautiful floral wardrobe using chalk paints and delicate, hand-painted flower designs to match their home's aesthetic.
From a simple old cupboard to a sacred space. This custom Puja unit was a project close to my heart, featuring laser-cut details, backlighting, and traditional Lippan art for a divine touch.
Here’s how I took a plain chest of drawers from drab to fab. After sanding and a fresh coat of chalk paint, I added natural cane webbing and a wooden beading frame for a modern, aesthetic look.
Sometimes the first idea isn't the best one. This video shows my process of transforming a simple stool with a colorful mosaic top, even after I had to change my initial design for the legs. It’s all part of the creative journey.
A broken glass top doesn't mean the end for a table. For this 20-year-old piece, I replaced the broken glass with a new wooden top and hand-painted a beautiful lotus design to give it a new life.
Don't discard your old furniture just yet. Watch how I gave this dark cabinet a complete makeover using green chalk paint, textured stenciling, and cane accents to create a unique statement piece.
Upcycling is an emotional and sustainable journey. This is a quick look at some of my favorite furniture transformations, each one saved from being discarded and turned into a treasured item.
About Featured
My experience is that most old, broken furniture is worth saving. Before you decide to discard a piece, look beyond the scratches or broken legs. I use mechanical sanding to strip away years of wear and high-quality chalk paints to rebuild the finish, turning even the most worn-out cupboards into functional, aesthetic statements. It is not just about painting over flaws, but about respecting the history of the piece while making it fit your current home vibe.
Whether it is a 40-year-old almirah or a simple side table, my process remains thorough. I start with deep cleaning and rigorous sanding to prepare the surface. For structural issues, I often collaborate with a carpenter to ensure the piece lasts another decade.
I love experimenting with textures. I use chalk paints, such as Annie Sloan, for a soft, matte finish that breathes with the wood. If a piece needs a modern update, I integrate natural cane webbing or laser-cut panels. For a bit of traditional flair, I apply hand-painted floral murals or Lippan art.
Upcycling is my form of sustainable pride. Every piece I work on in my Harlur studio is one less item destined for a landfill. I share my failures as openly as my successes. Sometimes a stencil design does not work out, or the wood grain behaves unexpectedly. I improvise, change the strategy, and keep working until the piece feels right.
I handle projects across Bengaluru, ensuring each item receives a custom treatment that aligns with your specific aesthetic needs. If you have a piece that feels like it has lost its luster, let us talk about how to bring it back to life.
