In these casual sessions, I steer away from stiff, posed portraits. Instead, we focus on movement and interaction—whether it’s laughing with your partner or including an older sibling in the frame. The goal is to create photos that feel like an honest snapshot of your family right now, using comfortable studio lighting and natural, earthy props that do not distract from the real emotions.
Whether you want a solo session or a family shoot, the key to a modern, casual maternity portrait is comfort. My Kalwa studio is set up specifically for these relaxed sessions, with plenty of natural light and boho-inspired props like rattan furniture and pampas grass that keep the vibe clean and airy.
What to expect during your session
Unlike formal shoots, these sessions prioritize your personality. If you prefer a minimal look, we stick to solid backdrops that highlight your bump without clutter. If you want a bit more texture, the boho corner provides a cozy, warm atmosphere that works perfectly for couples or family photos.
Preparing for your shoot
- Attire: You are welcome to wear your own casual outfits—think white shirts, denim, or simple knit dresses. If you need something specific, I have a range of maternity gowns available in the studio closet.
- Involving Family: I encourage including your partner and older children. These photos are about your family dynamic. We capture unposed interactions, like sharing a quiet moment or simply laughing together, which often result in the most authentic images.
- Props: Bring meaningful items. Sonograms, baby shoes, or even a favorite toy for an older sibling can make the photos more personal.
Because these sessions are focused on candid moments, we can get a variety of looks in a 1-hour session. I guide you through light movements to ensure you look natural, not stiff, making sure the final images reflect exactly who you are at this stage of your journey.
