Sitar Riyaaz and Creative Process
A look behind the curtain. These practice sessions and raw jams are where I explore new melodies and keep my craft sharp.
A snippet from a late-night riyaaz session with my friend Sudeep. These informal practice sessions are crucial for building chemistry and exploring new ideas together.
Just 'Jogkaunsing around'. This is a casual clip of me practicing the alap of Raag Jogkauns, a beautiful and complex raga.
Attempting a short alap in Raag Rageshree. My riyaaz often involves sitting with a single raga and exploring its mood and structure.
About My Riyaaz (Practice) & Creative Process
Most of the music you hear at an event is the final product, but the real work happens here. Whether I am exploring the micro-tonal nuances of a Raag like Rageshree or jamming with a fellow musician to build rhythm, my riyaaz is about technical honesty. This constant practice ensures that when I perform for you, the music is spontaneous, responsive to the atmosphere of your event, and deeply authentic.
My riyaaz is more than just practice. It is my daily conversation with the sitar. When I sit down to work on a complex raga like Jogkauns, I am not just hitting notes. I am fine-tuning the connection between the instrument, my own state of mind, and the legacy passed down by my dada guru, Pandit Arvind Parikh.
The Importance of the Process
These moments, whether solo or in a collaborative jam with friends like Sudeep, are essential to how I perform. They keep my fingers nimble and my ear sharp. By the time I arrive at your venue, I have already put in the hours needed to make sure the sitar is tuned perfectly and the music is ready to flow.
My Instrument
For these sessions, I use my professional grade Naeem Sitar. The clarity of its sound is crucial for me to experiment with both traditional Hindustani classical patterns and modern fusion beats.
Why This Matters for Your Event
When you hire me for an event, you aren't getting a pre-recorded track or a standard setlist played on autopilot. You are getting a musician who is constantly evolving. Whether you want a meditative classical atmosphere or a high-energy fusion set, my approach is always rooted in this process. I don't just show up to play; I show up to share a moment that we create together in real-time.
