Our Handmade Process at The Pretty Knot
Behind every piece we create is a real story of hard work. See how my mom and I bring our handmade macrame and crochet designs to life, from the first stitch to the final knot.
This is us. I’m the daughter who promotes the business, and this is my mother, the artist who makes these beautiful products by hand. This is the partnership that powers The Pretty Knot.
People often ask who supports my hustle. It’s my mom. She is the heart of our craft, and here we are together, pictured at one of our market stalls.
A little reality check on running a small business. Before you can be the boss, or 'malkin', you have to be the worker, or 'majdoor'. This is me, doing the hands-on work that goes into every single order.
This is the reality of a small business owner. Instead of being 'Papa ki pari', I'm doing 'majduri' until 2 AM to get your orders ready. Every bit of hard work is worth it.
Our business success formula is simple: my mom and my mother-in-law. Here they are, helping me pack a large batch of orders. It’s truly a family affair.
When you have a family business, everyone chips in. This is my sister-in-law, my favorite 'unpaid employee', helping me organize materials and prepare for new creations.
The best decision I ever made was to start my own business. Moments like this, packing large orders and sending our handmade products to new homes, make all the struggle worthwhile.
Building a business takes time, it's not instant like Maggi. This video shows the process, from packing bulk orders to hand-finishing macrame pieces and meeting customers.
About Our Handmade Journey
Every single item you see here starts as a pile of raw yarn in our living room, not a factory floor. Because my mom and I make everything by hand, we don't have an assembly line, just late nights and careful stitching. This means every order takes us about 10-15 days to finish, so if you are looking for something genuinely crafted rather than mass-produced, we are ready to start yours.
The Reality of Our Craft
Running The Pretty Knot isn't about being a big corporate brand. It’s about me and my mom, working out of our home, tying knots until 2 AM. When you order a custom crochet cardigan or a macrame wall hanging, you aren't getting something picked from a shelf. You’re getting a piece that was measured, cut, and stitched by us.
How We Work
We specialize in two things: hand-crocheted winter wear and intricate macrame home decor.
- Handmade Crochet: From our signature Plum Puff cardigans to floral-detailed sweaters, we use high-grade acrylic and wool blends. Everything is made-to-measure, so we ask for your specific sizes (bust, length, sleeve) before we pick up the crochet hook.
- Macrame Art: Whether it's a bulk corporate gifting order or a single personalized keychain, the process stays the same. We source quality cords, design the pattern, and execute it by hand.
Why It Takes Time
You might notice we don’t offer instant shipping. That’s because we don’t believe in mass production. Whether it’s a 15-day production cycle for a custom sweater or preparing a bulk order for 400 clients, we factor in the time needed to do it right. We believe that 'business banana hai, Maggie nahi' (building a business takes time, it's not instant noodles).
Working with Us
We ship across India, the US, and Canada. If you have a Pinterest reference for a crochet top or want a specific color for your macrame plant hanger, reach out. We love the creative challenge of turning your ideas into a real product.
