Custom Floor-Length Gowns Upcycled from Your Sarees
Give your cherished sarees a second life. I transform heirloom fabrics into elegant, custom-fitted gowns that honor your memories while fitting your style today.
This flowy, floor-length gown was crafted from a client's treasured silk saree. I designed it with a fully pleated skirt to create beautiful movement, carefully preserving the original dark blue and gold border along the hemline.
A closer look at the details of this redesigned silk saree gown. You can see how the original brocade pattern of the saree was used for the sleeves, adding a lovely texture against the soft pink.

This video captures the spirit of a festive celebration, featuring the custom gowns I created from sarees. Watch how the fabric moves and catches the light, bringing the old material to life in a new form.
It was so much fun creating these coordinating festive outfits. Using two sarees in the same family, I designed these matching gowns for a Ganesha festival celebration, each with its own unique color.
Here are the two complementary gowns in motion. It shows how you can create a cohesive look for family members for a special occasion, all by upcycling sentimental sarees.

About this collection
My process begins with a careful evaluation of your fabric. I do not just cut and stitch. I analyze the weight and fall of your saree to decide if a box pleat, Kalidar, or umbrella cut will best showcase its original border. This ensures your gown is not just a new dress, but a beautifully structured piece that highlights the specific embroidery or zari work you fell in love with in the first place.
Turning Memories into Modern Silhouettes
I believe that a saree should never sit gathering dust in a cupboard. Whether it was passed down from your amma or ajji, or it was a special gift for a milestone event, I help you keep that sentimental value alive. When we meet at my Jayanagar studio, we sit down to discuss the fabric, the occasion, and the look you want to achieve.
The Construction Process
Designing a gown from a saree requires technical precision. To ensure your outfit drapes perfectly, I focus on:
- Strategic Alignment: I map out the placement of the pallu and borders so they frame your silhouette, typically along the hem or the sleeves.
- Structural Integrity: For a floor-length gown, the structure is everything. I include 3.5 to 4 meters of premium lining (Butter Crepe or Shantoon) and reinforce the bodice with canvas fusing and foam cups.
- The Flare: If you want a voluminous look, I incorporate canvas strips inside the hemline to ensure the gown flares roundly and maintains its shape throughout your event.
Why Choose an Upcycled Gown?
Beyond sustainability, an upcycled gown is entirely yours. You won't walk into a room and see someone wearing the same outfit. We can create something unique, whether it's a sleek, modern, one-shoulder gown or a traditional Anarkali-style piece. Every stitch, from the invisible zip closures to the handmade latkans crafted from leftover scraps, is handled by me to ensure high quality.
Preparing for Your Appointment
Since I operate as an appointment-only studio, you get my undivided attention. Bring the saree you have in mind, and let's brainstorm. I love helping clients pick out contrast dupattas or specific necklines that make the old fabric feel completely fresh for your next housewarming, wedding, or festival celebration.
